What the assistants say
PeakMetrics put 250 benchmark questions across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok on 29 September 2026, which produced 1,250 answers. None of the questions named a company. Uber was named in 1,069 of them, Lyft in 636 and DoorDash in 530. Uber was the most-named brand in every question theme, from reliability and safety to driver pay and subscriptions. Grubhub was the only other brand to take second place, and only in the subscriptions and promotions theme.
The answers often decline to name a winner. Gemini said of arrival-time accuracy: "There is no single rideshare app that is consistently more accurate than the others". Perplexity, asked about sexual assault prevention, wrote: "There’s no reliable basis for naming one rideshare company the clear leader." Even so, Uber and Lyft are the two names that fill the comparison.
Delivery answers are built around DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub and Instacart, and the terms are practical: fees, subscriptions, tipping, complaint resolution. Labour and pay come up repeatedly, in questions on gig-driver treatment, tipping, health insurance, classification and unions.

Who owns the answer, and why
Uber's lead is broad. It was named in 220 of 250 ChatGPT answers, 230 of 250 Gemini answers and 235 of 250 Grok answers, and in 192 each for Claude and Perplexity. In the answers classified for what each brand was credited for, Uber's most frequent credits were Labour & Workplace and Customer Experience. Lyft's most frequent were Labour & Workplace and Safety & Compliance. DoorDash's were Customer Experience and Labour & Workplace. Those tallies are small, so read them as direction only.
The sources behind the answers also favour the big names. Owned domains make up 68% of cited sources, led by uber.com, lyft.com, help.uber.com and help.lyft.com. Community sources are 13%, with Reddit the top one. Review and affiliate sites are 11%, including getridewise.com and gridwise.io. News is 8%.
Several companies are barely present. Waymo appeared in 45 answers, Gopuff in 16 and Zoox in 13, and ChatGPT never named Zoox. Bolt shows a spread by assistant: Grok named it in 52 answers, Perplexity in 6 and Gemini in 8. Which assistant a customer uses changes whether a mid-sized challenger appears at all.

What the press is covering
In PeakMetrics' 30-day news index Uber has the most coverage, with 39,208 mentions and 7,788 with the brand in the headline. Recent headlines cover unionisation in British Columbia, pressure on ride-hailing firms over driver earnings after Uber's exit from Nigeria, and a report on its insurance costs.
DoorDash has 16,345 mentions. Its headlines include a $131M payment over underpaying delivery workers in New York City, a Costco ordering tie-up and drone delivery tests. Lyft has 6,631 mentions, with headlines on union recognition for Uber and Lyft drivers and on driver safety incidents.
Waymo has 9,334 mentions, of which 2,102 carry the brand in the headline. The coverage is about expansion into new cities and Hyundai vehicle supply. Zoox has 3,340 mentions, mostly about Las Vegas airport service. Grubhub's 2,010 mentions include DoorDash buying its campus dining business.
Waymo is the undisputed leader in fully driverless Level 4 commercial operations…
Where the two stories diverge
Robotaxis show the widest gap. Waymo draws thousands of press mentions but appears in a small share of answers. Where it does appear, the framing is strong. Claude's answer on self-driving technology said: "Waymo is the undisputed leader in fully driverless Level 4 commercial operations". The question never mentioned Waymo, and few of the ride-hailing questions led the assistants there. Zoox has the same pattern at smaller scale.
Coverage of driver pay and unionisation is heavy across Uber, Lyft and DoorDash. The answers carry a version of it, mostly through classification, tipping and benefits questions, but the recent legal and organising news is not reflected in most answers. Gemini's answer on regulatory influence, for example, said: "Uber is frequently the primary face of the industry's legislative and legal strategy."
Deliveroo is the reverse case. Its recent headlines in the index are dominated by a criminal court story about a rider, yet the brand was named in only 49 answers and credited for little.
Uber is frequently the primary face of the industry's legislative and legal strategy.
What this means for comms teams
Press volume does not carry over into answer visibility. A brand can dominate the news and still be missing from category answers, as Waymo and Zoox are in this snapshot. Teams should measure both.
Owned pages carry the largest share of cited sources here, and help-centre pages such as help.uber.com are among the top cited domains. Policy pages on safety, pay and cancellations are therefore likely to be read, so their accuracy and clarity are worth checking. Reddit and driver-earnings sites such as Gridwise sit beside them and are outside a company's control.
Assistants differ. A challenger that appears in one assistant's answers may be nearly absent in another's, so benchmarks should be tracked by assistant.
