How the answers frame DiDi
This snapshot, taken on 2026-09-29, covers 250 benchmark questions across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok, none of which named a brand. That is 1,250 answers. DiDi was named in 65 of them. Uber appeared in 1,069 and Lyft in 636. Grok accounted for the most DiDi appearances (28 of 250), followed by Claude (15), ChatGPT (9), Perplexity (7) and Gemini (6).
DiDi's visibility was concentrated in leadership questions (26%) and, at a distance, innovation (11%). Trust (8%), sustainability (6%) and reliability (5%) were lower. Driver pay and earnings (0%), employer (1%) and avoid (1%) questions almost never surfaced it. In the sampled answers, the brand was a comparison point rather than the subject.
ChatGPT's answer to the market-position question set Uber as leader and placed DiDi second on a global view, while noting that rankings shift by region. Perplexity's answer to a reputation-rankings question pointed to ACSI for Uber and Lyft, and mentioned DiDi only for an Australian consumer award. Grok's governance answer named Uber as strongest and put DiDi at the weaker end. The two attributed credits recorded for DiDi were Financial Performance and Customer Experience, one each.
If the user is asking about global ride-hailing, Uber is the leader, and DiDi generally ranks as number two.
What the press is saying
The PeakMetrics news index recorded 1,993 mentions of DiDi in the last 30 days, with the brand in the headline of 67. That is more coverage than Bolt (1,291), Deliveroo (1,326) or Shipt (726) received, though well below Uber (39,208) or Lyft (6,631).
The recent headlines are mixed. One is a research paper on ride-hailing matching at DiDi. Another is a roundup of robotaxi fleet expansion that includes DiDi. Several others use "Didi" in Indian regional stories, such as a women-driven ride service under a state taxi model and a free ambulance service. Those appear to use the word in a different sense, and this data doesn't show whether they refer to the company. So part of the mention volume may not be company coverage.

The gap
In news, DiDi has a steady base of coverage that spans research, autonomous vehicles and unrelated uses of its name. In AI answers, it shows up in a narrow slice of questions, mostly about market position and leadership. Waymo has far more news mentions (9,334) but fewer answer appearances (45), so coverage volume and answer visibility don't track each other closely across this set.
The framing also varies by assistant. ChatGPT gave DiDi a ranking role. Perplexity gave it a regional consumer award. Grok used it as the governance contrast to Uber. A reader would get a different impression of DiDi depending on which assistant answered and which question was asked.
Lyft and especially Didi lag due to structural weaknesses and past issues.
What to watch
For a comms team, the takeaway from this snapshot is that DiDi's presence in AI answers depends on leadership and comparison questions, and it is nearly absent from workforce and earnings topics. Where DiDi does appear on governance, this Grok answer framed it as trailing Uber. Teams can check which cited domains sit behind such claims.
These are single runs of live answers, and results vary between runs. The useful next step is to repeat the benchmark questions and see which framings persist, rather than treat any one answer as a settled position. It is also worth separating company coverage from mentions that only share the name before reading the news volume.
