The review examines social-media posts implying that the photographs showed Sri Lankans protesting against Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa when he and his delegation arrived in Italy on September 10, 2021. The investigation says the group travelled to Bologna for a G20 Interfaith conference event, and reports that the Sri Lankan embassy in Italy confirmed no protest had been reported at the time of their arrival. The review also says it found no news reports of a protest near Bologna airport after the delegation landed. To check the image’s provenance, the review compared it with a report published by The Morning on May 13, 2019, and identified the circulated photographs as images from a protest held in Italy that year. It further notes that the social-media image used a background showing a road near Venice airport, whereas the delegation arrived through Bologna’s Guglielmo Marconi Airport. The review therefore finds that the post misrepresented older protest imagery as showing a demonstration at the delegation’s arrival. The review distinguishes this from a separate demonstration planned for September 12 in Bologna, where Sri Lankans were to protest over justice for victims of the Easter attacks. It also mentions a separate gathering organized by Sri Lankans supporting Rajapaksa and the government. Those later or separate events do not establish that the circulated photographs showed a protest when the delegation arrived.

The claim concerns a photograph presented as showing a recent march in Delhi against the farm laws. Factcrescendo reports that it investigated the photograph itself and found that it came from a 2018 farmers’ and workers’ protest, rather than the later farm-law demonstrations. The review describes the image as showing a red-flag march on a rain-soaked road and says the social-media post overlaid it with text about rejecting the farm laws. S1 states: “২০১৮ সালে শ্রমিক এবং কৃষক আন্দোলনের ছবিকে সম্প্রতির দাবি করে ভুয়ো পোস্ট ভাইরাল করা হচ্ছে।” The review explains that its investigators tried a reverse-image search, which did not yield a definitive match, and then searched relevant keywords. They found the same photograph mentioned in a CPI(M) official-account post dated 5 September 2018, captioned “#KisanMazdoorFightBack.” The review also says NewsClick shared the image that day and reported that large numbers of farmers and workers had gathered in central Delhi to protest what they described as anti-farmer policies. S1 states: “৫ সেপ্টেম্বর, ২০১৮, তারিখে পোস্ট করা এই ছবির ক্যাপশনে লেখা হয়েছে #KisanMazdoorFightBack।” The review places the image in a march from Ramlila Maidan to Parliament Street, describing it as part of a 2018 protest by farmers and workers. That provenance is the key evidence against the claim that the photograph depicts a recent march against the farm laws passed in 2020. The review distinguishes the older protest from the later demonstrations: it notes that farmers in various states protested the three laws and demanded their withdrawal, but says the image being circulated was from the earlier event.

The claim reproduces questions shown on a page presented as a public petition about impeaching Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. The review examined that petition page and its instruction to share the link through WhatsApp to validate a signature. It concluded that the page did not record signatures, so answering the questions and sharing the link would not count as signing an impeachment petition. The review describes the site as a fake petition page intended to steal visitors’ data. It says the displayed signature counts were “por assim dizer, aleatórios” and that sharing the link would not make a user’s signature count. Thus, the wording of the questions was present on the site, but the page did not function as the petition its presentation suggested. The article also distinguishes the page’s claims from the legal process: it says the actions in the cited investigations were requested by the Prosecutor General’s Office or Federal Police and authorized by Moraes, and that a separate impeachment request made by the president had been archived by the Senate. These points are the review’s explanation of why the petition campaign did not establish a viable impeachment case; they do not change what questions appeared on the page.
Photograph of Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani when he was young
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The claim concerns a photograph circulated as showing Syed Ali Shah Geelani in his youth. FACTLY’s review identifies the image as a photograph of Sardar Ataullah Mengal, founder of the Balochistan National Party and Balochistan’s first chief minister, rather than Geelani. The review says that the image has no connection to the Kashmiri separatist leader. To trace the image, FACTLY reports conducting a reverse image search. It found a similar photograph on Flickr, where the description identified Mengal being taken away from a hearing in Karachi. The review also found a similar image in a tweet by former Pakistan ambassador to the US Hussain Haqqani, which expressed grief over Mengal’s death, and in reporting and video about Mengal. The review describes a further check by India Today Fact Check: it contacted Geelani’s younger son, Naseem Geelani, who said the viral photograph was not of his father and supplied an old photograph of Geelani. Together, the image-search results and the family member’s identification support the review’s conclusion that the circulated photograph was misidentified.
