Rahul Gandhi said, “I want Power. I don’t care about truth. The truth be damned. Let me get the chair”

Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING

The viral clip presents Rahul Gandhi as saying, “I want power. I don’t care about truth. The truth be damned. Let me get the chair,” as though he were describing his own desire for power. The review says the words do occur in his speech, but the surrounding sentence identifies their subject as Hindutva supporters and BJP leaders: Gandhi said they “want power at any cost,” contrasted that with Mahatma Gandhi’s stated preference for truth over power, and then used the disputed words to describe what “they (BJP) say.” The review traces the speech to a rally in Jaipur in December 2021. It reports that the viral version shows only the disputed passage, omitting the preceding words that establish whom Gandhi was talking about. That omission changes the apparent meaning: the phrase is spoken by Rahul Gandhi, but in the fuller passage it is attributed to BJP leaders, not presented as Gandhi’s own declaration.

The claim conflates two separate events in November 2022: the ASEAN summit in Cambodia and the G20 meeting in Bali. The photograph circulated as evidence of Schwab at the G20 actually shows him at an ASEAN summit gala in Phnom Penh. The review says the summit ran from November 10 to 13, and reports that a YouTube video posted on November 13 shows Schwab arriving at the gala. The G20 meeting, by contrast, took place in Bali on November 15 and 16. Schwab did travel to Bali, but the review identifies his role there as a speaker at the B20, a business forum associated with the G20—not as a participant in the G20’s official meetings. It says the B20 took place on November 13 and 14, and that Schwab spoke on November 14, before the G20 began. The article also notes that taking part in informal events does not establish participation in official G20 meetings. The review reports that Gates was in Kenya during the G20 dates, rather than at the Bali meeting. It cites his own November 16 post saying he was in Kenya that week, a local politician’s November 15 post about his visit to a hospital and tree planting, and photographs of Gates with Kenyan President William Ruto on November 16.

The post asked why Bill Gates and Klaus Schwab were at the G20 meeting in Bali and presented a photo as showing Schwab there. The investigation distinguishes the G20 leaders’ summit from the related B20 business forum: the G20 summit took place on 15 and 16 November 2022, while the B20 was held on Bali on 13 and 14 November. Schwab, as head of the World Economic Forum, spoke at the B20 on 14 November—not at the official G20 discussions described in the review. The photo does not establish that Schwab was on Bali. The review traces it to a gala dinner in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, during the ASEAN summit, held from 10 to 13 November—before the G20 summit. It says a video of the gala’s welcome ceremony shows Schwab being greeted there. The review reports that Gates did not attend the G20 summit: on 15 November he visited a hospital and planted a tree in Kenya, and on 16 November he met Kenyan President William Ruto. It says his visit was documented by multiple sources and reported by Kenyan media. Thus the post combines Schwab’s participation in the separate B20 forum with a photo from Cambodia, while placing Gates at a summit he did not attend.

While Manmohan Singh was seen hiding his face at G20 summit gathering in 2011, PM Modi interacted face to face with world leaders at the recent summit

Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING

The post compared two images to suggest a contrast: Manmohan Singh was supposedly hiding his face at the 2011 G20 summit, while Narendra Modi spoke face-to-face with leaders at a more recent summit. FACTLY says the comparison is misleading because Singh’s lowered head in the selected image captured a brief moment during the leaders’ group-photo session, rather than showing him consistently avoiding or bowing before other leaders. The review identifies the session as the G20 summit in Cannes, France, on 3 November 2011. To check the first image, FACTLY reports using reverse image search, which led to the original image on Reuters. It also says that other pictures and video from the same photo session show Singh standing in a normal posture. The review explains that the image was taken while he looked down at the floor, and notes that visuals of other leaders looking down during the session were also available. This evidence supports the conclusion that the still image isolates a moment, not that Singh was hiding his face throughout the gathering. The comparison also leaves out evidence of Singh interacting with leaders face-to-face. FACTLY points to images of him with then-Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, then-German President Christian Wulff, Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama. The second image, meanwhile, shows Modi interacting with US President Joe Biden and Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the 2022 G20 summit in Indonesia. The review therefore disputes the implied contrast: the selected images show particular moments, while other cited visuals document Singh standing normally and interacting with counterparts.
