Publisher’s rating: De bewering is onwaar.

Mallikarjun Kharge while addressing a rally in Shimla announced to make Sachin Pilot the new Chief Minister of Rajasthan

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

FACTLY investigated a video said to show Mallikarjun Kharge announcing Sachin Pilot as Rajasthan’s next chief minister, replacing Ashok Gehlot. It identified the footage as Kharge speaking at a rally in Banuti, in the Shimla rural constituency, on 9 November 2022. The rally was part of the Congress campaign for the Himachal Pradesh elections, rather than an event about Rajasthan politics. The review says it watched the full video and found no reference in Kharge’s speech to Pilot, Gehlot or Rajasthan politics. It also checked the rally’s setting: a banner visible behind the meeting identified it as the “Parivarthan Prathigna Rally” and gave the date and Banuti location. The review reports finding the full speech on the Indian National Congress’s official YouTube channel. According to the review, Kharge spoke about the Himachal election campaign, including unemployment and Congress’s promises on jobs, pensions, electricity and farmers’ loans. The review also says that news reports covering the rally did not report the alleged Rajasthan announcement and that it could find no report confirming it. Its conclusion rests on the identified full speech and the absence of the claimed statement there—not on evidence that Kharge made such an announcement.
