Fact Crescendo Cambodia investigated a Facebook post that it says appeared on December 13, 2022. The post contained two photos and a caption referring to a $2 billion loan; one image was presented as showing Prime Minister Hun Sen at an official ceremony for borrowing more than $2 billion from South Korea. The review concluded that the photos and accompanying statements were inaccurate: the image did not show a $2 billion loan on the ceremony banner. The review describes using Google Reverse Image Search to find images of the same shape and format on Hun Sen’s official Facebook page. It says the page’s caption described a signing ceremony for a $1.5 billion loan from South Korea, and that the original image showed Hun Sen at the ceremony. It also points to a video of the signing, where the banner reads only “Signing Ceremony.” Together, the review’s comparison of the posted image with the located original and video supports its finding that the banner in the circulated image had been altered.

Das ist ein echtes Foto von Sebastian Kurz.
Publisher’s rating: Das Foto wurde bearbeitet.
The claim that the image is a genuine photo of Sebastian Kurz concerns a specific image that circulated on social media in winter 2022. The review traces it to an ORF “Zeit im Bild” broadcast filmed outside the public prosecutor’s office shortly before Kurz was interviewed there on 28 November 2022. It reports that the image appeared on Reddit in an altered form a few hours after the broadcast, then spread to Facebook and Twitter in the following days. The review’s conclusion is that the circulating image had been manipulated, not that Kurz’s appearance in the original broadcast was itself altered.

The claim presents Robert Habeck as saying he would keep sanctions against Russia even if part of his own population starved. The review traces this interpretation to a short Russia Today clip and to Dutch-language posts that, it says, added the implication that the lives at stake were German. It identifies the underlying remarks as coming from a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum in Davos on May 23, titled “Energy Outlook: Overcoming the Crisis.” In the full discussion, Habeck had described four connected challenges: inflation, the energy crisis, hunger, and climate change. The review says he argued that neglecting these problems could risk a global recession and instability. In that setting, he spoke hypothetically about famine affecting parts of the world, then said he could not imagine his country or another country represented by the audience doing what he believed the Russian regime could do: sacrifice 100,000 lives to get sanctions lifted. The review links that remark to Russia’s obstruction of Ukrainian grain exports, not to Germans starving because Habeck refused to lift sanctions. The review says Russia Today cut the passage between 7:14 and 7:43, and paired the clip with a statement by former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright about sanctions on Iraq. It reports that Habeck’s ministry confirmed the interpretation that he was describing what the Russian regime might be willing to do. The Dutch claim therefore reverses who Habeck was describing and adds a German-population implication absent from the original discussion.
