Fact Check : මොහොමඩ් ඊබ්රාහිම් ජාතික ජන බලවේගයෙන් සහ කරුණා අම්මාන් පොදු ජන පෙරමුණින් මෙවර මැතිවරණයට? | Mohomad Ibrain and Kauna Amman are not contesting from NPP and SLPP for Parliamentary Elections 2020
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The review investigated posts claiming that Mohammed Ibrahim was contesting for the National People’s Power (NPP), and that Karuna Amman was contesting for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) in the 2020 parliamentary election. It describes posts identifying Ibrahim as an NPP candidate with preference number 1, and a separate post presenting Karuna Amman as an SLPP candidate in the Vanni district with preference number 5. The review’s conclusion addresses those specific candidate and party claims. For Ibrahim, the review says it checked candidate lists for all 22 electoral districts on the Election Commission’s website, then checked the national list. It reports that his name appeared on neither. For Karuna Amman, the review identifies him as Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan and says it checked the SLPP’s Vanni candidate list published on the Election Commission’s official Facebook page. It reports that preference number 5 belonged to Basheer Ahmadu Jasar, not Muralitharan. It further says Muralitharan was contesting from Digamadulla (Ampara) for the Akhila Ilankai Tamil Mahasabha, under the ship symbol, at number 9. Thus, the posts placed him under the wrong party and district. These reported checks support the review’s conclusion that the two claims were false.

Podemos quiere quitar el derecho a voto de las personas mayores
Publisher’s rating: Falso
The review traces the claim to a tweet posted in August 2016. The tweet argued that an age limit for voting would be logical in an advanced country, but Newtral reports that it came from an unofficial account. The review says Podemos denied that the proposal appeared in its electoral programme and said it did not know the account’s origin. To check whether the claim described an actual party position, Newtral says it contacted Podemos and examined the party’s 2016 electoral programme. It also reports that, up to the time of the review, Unidas Podemos had neither presented a parliamentary proposal nor announced a measure like the one in the tweet. These findings address the asserted policy, rather than merely the tweet’s wording. The review distinguishes the alleged restriction from a separate position acknowledged by the party: expanding voting rights to people aged 16 and older, from the existing minimum voting age of 18. That is an extension of eligibility to younger people, not a proposal to remove older people’s right to vote.

HEROES Act would eliminate state requirements for voter IDs in federal elections
Publisher’s rating: True
The claim concerned the HEROES Act, a coronavirus relief bill introduced by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on May 12, 2020, and whether it would remove state voter-ID requirements for federal elections. USA Today examined Section 160004, which would amend the Help America Vote Act of 2002. The bill had passed the House, but the review noted that it was unlikely to pass the Senate; its account describes a proposed change, not an enacted law. The proposal would not simply erase every identification rule. It would let a voter satisfy an existing state identification requirement by making a sworn written statement attesting to their identity. The bill summary quoted in the review says that if a state requires identification to vote in person or by mail, an individual may use that statement to fulfill the requirement. The review also notes an exception: the change would not affect requirements for certain first-time voters who registered by mail. The review explains that the provision applied specifically to federal elections—president and Congress—and would standardize this alternative across states. State rules differed: the National Conference of State Legislatures reported that 36 states requested or required some form of identification at the polls, while other states used different verification methods. Because the proposed sworn statement could meet an existing requirement, the review concluded that voters would no longer need to provide other voter ID for covered federal-election voting, while qualifying its conclusion by describing the bill’s scope and exception.

The rumor concerned the 2020 recall vote in Kaohsiung: it alleged that officials would prepare twice the required ballots and ballot boxes, send one set of ballots to Taiwan’s Central Election Commission after voting, and destroy the ballots cast at polling places. The investigation reports that it interviewed the Kaohsiung City Election Commission and the Central Election Commission about ballot printing, oversight, and post-count handling.

a video of ABP News where people are asking to vote for the BJP. The post describes that it is a clipping from Tejashwi Yadav's rally…but people will only vote for Modi.
Publisher’s rating: Misleading
The post claimed that an ABP News clip showed people at a Tejashwi Yadav rally in Bihar saying they would vote for the BJP, but that they would vote for Narendra Modi. Vishvas News investigated whether the video was from campaigning for the Bihar Assembly elections then under way. It concluded that the clip was instead from the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign: its conclusion says the video “is during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections” and “is not from current Bihar Assembly elections as in the claim.” The review describes two checks on the video’s timing. First, investigators identified the ABP News logo and heard people asking for votes for Modi. They then noted that the video’s title card advertised results on May 23, 2019. The review contrasted that date with the Assembly election schedule: it says the first two polling phases had concluded on October 28 and November 3, the final phase was scheduled for November 7, and results were due on November 10. The May 23 card therefore pointed to an earlier election rather than the Assembly election being discussed. Vishvas News also identified the reporter in the clip as Utkarsh and contacted him. According to the review, he said the package was from the previous year’s Lok Sabha elections and that he had then worked for ABP News. These details support the review’s distinction between what the video showed and the post’s claim about its timing: people did call for votes for Modi, but the clip was not from the claimed Assembly-election rally period.
