Encabezo la lista más votada

Publisher’s rating: Falso

Isabel Díaz Ayuso made the statement during an interview with La Razón, published on 5 July, while discussing whether she expected to complete the regional legislature with Ciudadanos. The review quotes her saying, “Encabezo la lista más votada” (“I headed the most-voted list”). The claim concerns the results of the most recent Madrid regional election at the time, held on 26 May 2019—not which party ultimately formed the regional government. The review reports that the PSOE candidate, Ángel Gabilondo, received 884,218 votes and 37 seats, while the PP received 719,852 votes and 30 seats. It therefore concludes that the PSOE, not Ayuso’s PP, was the most-voted party and that Ayuso’s list placed second. Those figures directly address the claim about vote totals. The review explains why Ayuso nevertheless became president: the PSOE, Más Madrid and Unidas Podemos together fell three seats short of the 67 needed for an absolute majority, while the PP, Ciudadanos and Vox together held more seats. The distinction is between leading in votes, which the PSOE did, and being appointed president after party alliances, which Ayuso was.

Fact Check : සම්පත් විදානපතිරණ, අබ්දුල් රාසික් මෙවර මැතිවරණයට පොදු ජන පෙරමුණින් ඉදිරිපත් වන්නේ නැත! | Sampath Widanapathirana and Abdul Rasik are not contesting from SLPP for 2020 Parliamentary Election

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerned two purported SLPP candidates for Sri Lanka’s 2020 parliamentary election: Sampath Widanapathirana in Hambantota and Abdul Rasik in Batticaloa. The review says the posts presented Widanapathirana as candidate number 9 and Rasik as candidate number 5. It checked the Election Commission’s gazette listing candidates by district against those claims: “අංක 9 යටතේ හම්බන්තොට දිස්ත්‍රික්කයෙන් සම්පත් විදානපතිරණ නැමැත්තෙකු පොදු ජන පෙරමුණින් තරඟ කරන බවය” and “ඔහු අංක 5 යටතේ පොදු ජන පෙරමුණින් තරඟ වදින බවය.” For Hambantota, the review reports that the SLPP’s candidate at number 9 was Walimunige Lionel Subasinghe, not Widanapathirana. It further says that Widanapathirana did not appear as an SLPP candidate in any of the other district lists it checked: “හම්බන්තොට දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ අංක 9 යටතේ ශ්‍රී ලංකා පොදුජන පෙරමුණෙන් තරග කරන්නේ වලිමුනිගේ ලයනල් සුබසිංහ නැමැත්තෙකු බවයි” and “අනෙකුත් සියලු දිස්ත්‍රික්කවල පොහොට්ටුව යටතේ සම්පත් විදානපතිරණ යන අයකු තරග කරන්නේ නැති බව ද පැහැදිලි විය.” For Batticaloa, it reports that Rasik’s name was absent from the SLPP list and that candidate number 5 was Ponnampalam Dharmendra: “මඩකලපුව දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ පොදුජන පෙරමුණේ නාම ලැයිස්තුවේ අබ්දුල් රාසික්ගේ නම නොතිබූ අතර අංක 5 යටතේ පොදු ජන පෙරමුණේ මඩකලපුව දිස්ත්‍රික්කයෙන් තරඟ කරන්නේ පොන්නම්පලම් ධර්මෙන්ද්‍රා යන අයෙකි.” The review concludes that the claims that the two men were standing for the SLPP in those districts were false.
