Publisher’s rating: Falso

The claim is the invitation to answer four questions in order to choose a prize in a supposed Mercado Livre Customer Week promotion. Boatos.org examined that message in the context of a WhatsApp link-sharing offer: the article says the site asked visitors to answer questions and then share its link, and displayed a choice of a smartphone, notebook or TV. The message quoted in the article includes the same welcome and four-question prize pitch as the claim. [S1]

BR24 FaktenfuchsEconomy & business

Hartmann’s statement, made during the BR24 Wahlarena on 13 September 2023, linked the falling German wholesale electricity price since the final nuclear plants shut down to that shutdown. BR24’s review finds the price did fall, but says the timing alone does not establish that the nuclear exit caused the decrease. It notes that prices had already been falling before the last three plants were switched off, and that their contribution to generation had been small. The review identifies other factors affecting prices: falling electricity consumption in Germany, increased wind and solar generation across Europe, and imports of cheaper renewable electricity from neighboring countries. Germany was a net electricity importer from 15 April 2023 onward; a Federal Network Agency representative said prices would have been higher without those imports. The review also reports that gas and carbon-emissions prices, weather, and conditions in neighboring countries had greater influence on the price than the nuclear shutdown. The timing is also seasonally confounded: the review says wholesale electricity prices generally fall in spring as more hydropower becomes available and demand declines. Experts cited by BR24 therefore said at least a year would be needed to assess the nuclear shutdown’s effect while accounting for seasonal variation. The evidence supports Hartmann’s observation that prices fell, but not his implied attribution of that fall to the nuclear shutdown.

After the G20 summit, Fareed Zakaria made comments on the Indian economy on his show

Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING

The claim concerns a video of Fareed Zakaria discussing India’s economy that was shared as though he had made the comments on his CNN show after the G20 summit. The review finds that the video’s analysis predated the summit: it says the analysis “was released in April 2023 after Zakaria visited India.” The summit, by contrast, took place in September 2023; the review states that it was held on 9–10 September. To trace the clip, the review says it identified the “Fareed Zakaria GPS” CNN show branding on the video, then searched online and found the same report on Zakaria’s Facebook page, where it had been uploaded on 1 May 2023. It also reports finding the video on CNN’s website and an opinion piece presenting the same analysis in The Washington Post, published on 18 April 2023. These dates place the material months before the summit, rather than after it. The review describes the segment as Zakaria’s analysis of three revolutions that, in his view, helped fuel India’s economic surge, and says he had visited India in April 2023. It concludes that the video was an earlier analysis recirculated with a false post-summit framing—not commentary prompted by the September G20 summit.
