The claim concerns a Facebook post presenting a giveaway of 480 bicycles supposedly unsellable because of “minor scratches and damage.” The post said users could enter by commenting “Danke” and might then be selected at random to receive a bicycle. The dpa review examined the linked participation and registration pages, rather than treating the post’s description as proof that bicycles were actually being given away. The review reports that the participation link led to a page whose address began with sites.google.com, not the name of a company or shop. Although a photograph showed the e-bike.de shop address in the background, that address did not appear in the linked page’s URL. The page also lacked an imprint and directed clicks to the same link. A later page requested personal information and named a UK company as responsible, without mentioning e-bike.de. The review also notes that a bicycle image came from a different, genuine shop giveaway, and that the Facebook page posing as Ebike lacked a verification badge and had no other posts. Taken together, those findings do not substantiate the advertised giveaway: the links and page details instead failed to connect the offer to the shop whose name and imagery it invoked.

Locals in Surat are collecting diamonds from the street thrown by a distressed diamond trader due to a decline in exports

Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING

The review examined a circulating video said to show Surat residents scavenging for diamonds after a trader, distressed by falling exports, threw them into the street. Its account identifies the location as Mini Bazar in the Varachha area. People reportedly began searching the road after hearing that a local businessman had accidentally discarded valuable diamonds. The review says its investigators searched online using terms related to the claim and found reports about the incident. It also cites an account from Alpesh Gabani, a police inspector at Varachha police station, who told BoomLive that someone had dropped a bag of American diamonds—imitation stones used in jewellery. According to the review, that incident prompted the crowd and the rumours, but was unrelated to a crisis in Surat’s diamond market. Thus, the footage concerned a real crowd searching the street, but the review’s account does not support the accompanying explanation that a distressed trader threw away real diamonds because exports had declined. The stones were described as imitation stones, and the market-crisis explanation was not connected to this incident.

"Ich weiß, die Inflation ist da, aber die zwei letzten Rentenerhöhungen waren die allerhöchsten Rentenerhöhungen der letzten 20 Jahre."

Publisher’s rating: Teilweise richtig.

The claim was made by Florian von Brunn of the SPD during the BR24 Wahlarena on 27 September 2023. The review checks whether the two most recent German pension adjustments were the largest in the preceding 20 years. Its comparison is split between western and eastern Germany, following the German Pension Insurance’s separate regional statistics; the review says a spokesperson identified wage and salary developments as the main factor in pension adjustments. For western Germany, the review finds that both recent increases were the largest in the period it examined: pensions rose 5.35% in 2022 and 4.39% in 2023. The 2016 increase was close, at 4.25%, but did not exceed either recent adjustment. Thus, the claim’s description fits the western figures. The eastern figures do not support the full claim. The review reports increases of 6.12% in 2022 and 5.86% in 2023, but the 2016 increase was 5.95%—higher than the 2023 adjustment. The 2023 increase therefore was not the second-highest of the period in eastern Germany; it ranked third. The regional distinction is decisive: the statement fits the two latest adjustments in the west, but not in the east.

The claim concerns a Facebook giveaway that purported to offer five Hymer motorhomes. The review describes the post’s pitch: the vehicles supposedly could not be sold because of minor scratches, and users were told they could win one by commenting “Glückwunsch.” The review investigated the Facebook page and the images used in the promotion, rather than verifying a genuine Hymer prize draw. The page was created on September 13, 2023, and its operator was not identifiable. The review reports that the page had no legal notice, lacked Facebook’s verification badge, had only 17 followers, and contained just the giveaway post. By contrast, Hymer’s official Facebook page had a complete legal notice and 167,000 followers at the end of September 2023. These observations distinguish the giveaway page from the company’s official account. The review also used a reverse image search to check the purported prize’s interior photo. It found the image had circulated since 2018 and showed a motorhome made by another company, Morelo, identifiable by lettering on a seat. Taken together, the page’s lack of identifying and verification details, its minimal activity, and the misidentified vehicle image support the finding that the advertised giveaway was not a genuine Hymer promotion.

Publisher’s rating: Falso

The investigation examined claims that the largest popular clothing market in the Northeast had gone bankrupt and that shops had closed because of Lula’s election. The posts used footage of a man walking through a commercial establishment in Santa Cruz do Capibaribe, Pernambuco. The reporting identified the filmed site as part of the Santa Cruz Mart Moda Hotéis development, rather than establishing that the whole city’s clothing trade had failed. The source says it contacted the development’s administrative director, Walter Botelho, and the local trade association. Botelho said the center was neither bankrupt nor closed and operated daily during business hours. He said the footage was recorded on a day without a fair, when foot traffic was lower, while acknowledging that the center faced difficulties and that the clothing hub had busy and slow seasons. The trade association likewise said the establishment had operated for years and had never closed. This evidence distinguishes reduced activity at a particular time from the video’s claim of total failure. The source also reports that the association disputed the video’s description of the site as the Northeast’s largest popular clothing market: it said that title belonged to Modas Center, also in Santa Cruz do Capibaribe. The excerpts document no evidence that the alleged closure resulted from Lula’s election; instead, they provide direct statements from the site’s administrator and the trade association that the filmed center remained open.
