The claim concerns a pro-Trump text circulated on Facebook as though Clint Eastwood had written it. The investigation says the text began, “Ich liebe es, wenn Leute Trump Dumm [sic] nennen,” and reports that its full English version appeared on pro-Trump websites and in a forum. The forum version was posted on September 6, 2019, but the review found no connection there to Eastwood as author. It also notes that the German version translated the longer text and added the unsupported attribution to Eastwood. The review traces a prominent Facebook post by New Hampshire state representative Fred Doucette. On September 22, 2019, he shared the text “I love when people call Trump Stupid” alongside a graphic featuring Eastwood’s photograph and a separate purported quotation from him criticizing Congress. The review says the combination could create the impression that Eastwood authored the entire pro-Trump text, but reports no evidence for that attribution. Doucette later reused parts of the text under his own name in a letter to a local newspaper, with some wording changed and passages removed. The review also places the alleged endorsement against Eastwood’s political record: he had supported Trump before the 2016 presidential election, but in February 2020 declared support for Democratic presidential hopeful Michael Bloomberg. It reports that PolitiFact and Snopes likewise found no evidence Eastwood had made the statement. These points distinguish his documented political support at different times from authorship of the viral text; the review’s account does not establish who originally wrote it.

The claim came from Lega deputy Alessandro Morelli, who said on 8 July that Rai was paying €25,000 for rights to a “fiction” about Carola Rackete and Sea Watch. The review says the claim was inaccurate in two respects: Rai had not finalized the purchase, and the work was a documentary, not a fiction. Rai sources told the reviewers that a possible purchase for around €25,000 was still only under consideration; the idea was to show it as part of a television discussion featuring different political positions. The reviewers identified the work as *Sea Watch 3*, made by German journalists Jonas Schreijäg and Nadia Kailouli. They say a Facebook post by Salvini’s party reproduced the film’s poster, corroborating that this was the production Morelli meant. The review distinguishes a documentary’s portrayal of real events from fiction: it reports that the film follows the real people and events surrounding 53 migrants rescued by the Sea Watch vessel in June 2019, and says it contains no actors or set-shot scenes. Thus, the price was a reported estimate for a possible acquisition, not a confirmed Rai decision, and calling the work a fiction mischaracterized its format. The review also notes that disputing a documentary’s editorial slant would be a separate criticism; it does not establish that the film’s point of view was neutral.

The DPA review examines a Swiss Facebook post alleging that sagging—wearing trousers low enough to expose part of the buttocks—originated in American prisons as a sexual signal. The review distinguishes that allegation from the explanation it reports: the style may have begun in prison, but because prisoners were not permitted to wear belts for safety reasons. It describes the sexual explanation as a rumor, not the reason for the style’s prison origins. The review says that fashion magazine MenswearStyle addressed the sexual rumor in 2017 and rejected it. It also cites Elizabeth Fischer, a professor and head of the Fashion and Accessories Design department at HEAD–Genève, who said that belts were removed and prohibited in prison because they could be used for hanging or to injure someone. »”] As further support, the review cites a 2007 CNN account: it says prisoners’ loose uniform trousers came without belts to prevent hangings and assaults, and traces the style’s later appearance in gangster rap videos in the late 1980s and its spread to skaters and school settings. The review also reports that Snopes rejected the idea that sagging signaled sexual availability and said the rumor was used to discredit a style associated, among others, with rappers.
American Cartoonist Ben Garrison’s cartoons depicting the current state of Indian media
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The review investigates two cartoons circulating with the claim that American cartoonist Ben Garrison drew them to depict the state of Indian media. One shows a pig caricatured as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, piglets bearing Indian news-channel logos, and a dog labelled “Bhagwat.” The other shows dogs with pen-nib heads looking toward a bone. The review reports using reverse-image searches to trace both images rather than relying on their apparent signatures or captions. For the pig cartoon, the search led to an earlier version showing Hillary Clinton as the mother pig, piglets labelled with terms including “Lies,” “Criminality,” “Theft” and “Graft,” and a dog named “Bill.” The review says Garrison drew that original in March 2016 during the US presidential elections, and concludes that the version circulating about Indian media had been altered. It also reports that Indian cartoonist Satish Acharya said the Modi caricature was taken from a cartoon he drew in 2010. For the second image, the review says its search found it online at least as early as 2009, in an article on an Afghan scholars-and-writers website; that article did not identify the cartoonist. The review additionally checked Garrison’s website and reports that no such Indian-media cartoon appeared there. It cites Garrison’s 2017 statement that he had never drawn cartoons on Indian politics and that cartoons circulating with his signature were not his. Taken together, the traced earlier versions and Garrison’s clarification support the review’s conclusion that neither cartoon was his depiction of Indian media.
