Deepika Padukone in a t-shirt with ‘I STAND WITH INDIAN FARMERS’ slogan written on it

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerns a photo circulated as showing Deepika Padukone wearing a T-shirt with the words “I STAND WITH INDIAN FARMERS,” supposedly in support of farmers. FACTLY reports that it used a reverse image search to locate an earlier version of the photograph. In that original image, Padukone is wearing a plain black T-shirt, with no slogan; the review says the slogan in the circulating image was added through editing. The review identifies the photograph as one taken while Padukone was leaving an airport. It says the same image appeared in an Indian Express article dated 20 March 2018 and in an idiva article dated 17 March 2018. Those earlier appearances place the photograph before the farmers’ protests against the three Agriculture Bills described in the review, and the image itself does not show a farmers’ message. The decisive comparison is between the circulating version, which has the slogan, and the earlier photograph, which FACTLY describes as showing a plain black shirt. On the evidence provided, the image does not establish that Padukone wore the pro-farmer slogan.

Inauguration ceremony of a cinema hall playing an Israeli film in Saudi Arabia

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The post presented a video as the inauguration of a Saudi cinema showing an Israeli film for the first time. It further alleged that Prince Mohammed bin Salman inaugurated the screening and that it was part of 50,000 screenings in collaboration with Israel. The review says the video circulated amid discussion of Arab nations normalizing diplomatic ties with Israel, but its investigation found that the footage showed a crowd outside a discount store in Hafar Al-Batin, Saudi Arabia—not a cinema event. To identify the footage, the review reports conducting reverse image searches on screenshots from the video. It found photographs with similar visuals in a 2019 Al-Marsad News article. According to the review’s account of that article, the images showed men and women gathered outside a discount store in Hafar Al-Batin, where discounts prompted people to compete to enter and take advantage of the offer. The review also points to a tweet posted on 20 April 2019 that it says showed video with similar visuals and described it as a sale in Hafar Al-Batin. Taken together, these comparisons identify the shared footage as a 2019 store-discount crowd, rather than evidence of the claimed cinema inauguration. The review says the incident had nothing to do with a cinema hall or Saudi Arabia’s ties with Israel.

Video of unlocking a 150-year-old Almirah in Kerala

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerns a video presented as showing someone unlocking a 150-year-old almirah in Kerala. FACTLY reports that the video instead shows the Roentgen’s Berlin Secretary Cabinet, an eighteenth-century piece of European furniture. The review identifies it as the work of Abraham and his son David Roentgen and says it was owned by King Frederick William II and is now in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The review describes its verification method: a reverse image search found similar visuals in a video on the Met’s official YouTube channel. That video was published on 25 October 2012 under the cabinet’s name. The Met’s description, as quoted in the review, identifies it as an important product of the Roentgen workshop and a notable achievement in eighteenth-century European furniture-making. The identification and provenance contradict the Kerala framing: the footage matches a named European museum object with a documented eighteenth-century history, not a 150-year-old almirah in Kerala. The review also notes that the Met said the cabinet had belonged to Frederick William II and that the museum displayed it during exhibitions. These details place the video in the context of the cabinet’s museum history rather than the claimed Kerala setting.

Claim: Misleading on Arjun Sampath and Actor Surya

Publisher’s rating: Partly False

The review investigates a news card shared on Facebook in September 2020 that attributed two statements to Arjun Sampath and actor Surya: that Sampath would pay one lakh rupees to anyone who hit Surya with a slipper, and that Surya would give the chance to hit him to a poor student. The fact-check says it examined the circulated card, which carried a Clown Media logo, and searched for the named outlet and the claim on its Facebook page. It reports finding a page by that name but not the card or claim there. The review’s key correction is that the slipper-reward remark was attributed to Dharma, identified as the state deputy general secretary of Hindu Makkal Katchi, not to the party’s founder, Arjun Sampath. It says people misunderstood or recirculated the remark as Sampath’s. The review also reports that Sampath issued an explanation on September 19, 2020. On the alleged reply from Surya, the review says it could find no report that he had offered to give a poor student the chance to hit him. It concludes that the viral account connected Sampath and Surya to words and an exchange that the review could not substantiate as theirs.
