The review investigated where the video was filmed and whether it was recent, rather than treating the post’s description as established fact. Its account identifies the footage as showing the MV X-Press Pearl burning off Sri Lanka in 2021, not a British ship attacked off Yemen. The review says a reverse-image search using a screenshot from the video returned results showing the footage dated to 2021. It reports that the video-hosting site NewsFlare listed it as made on 26 May 2021 off Colombo, Sri Lanka, and that CNN Indonesia and Insider News used the same footage in reporting on the incident. The review further says the fire aboard the container ship began on 20 May 2021 and that the ship sank on 2 June. This provenance and chronology conflict with presenting the footage as a recent attack off Yemen. The review distinguishes the misleading video attribution from the broader situation in the Red Sea: it reports that Houthi rebels had declared support for Gaza and that ships in the region faced attacks, but says the footage did not depict a fully burned-out ship from that conflict. The evidence therefore addresses the specific video in the post; it does not establish that no separate attacks on ships occurred.

The review describes a voice-over alleging that Algeria’s parliament approved the country’s participation in the war and that a unanimous vote authorized a conflict with Israel. It reports that the same video circulated from several Facebook accounts between November 25 and 27, 2023. To check the claim, the review searched Google News by keywords for reliable-media coverage of a declaration of war or a parliamentary vote, and searched the Algerian Press Service website for the same information. It says neither search found evidence of the supposed declaration or vote. The review also notes that an event of such geopolitical significance would ordinarily attract international press coverage, but says it found no such reporting. The review contrasts the video’s assertion with a message by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on November 29, 2023, for the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. The message supported Palestinians and their struggle, but, according to the review, did not mention Algeria’s direct involvement in the war; instead, Tebboune called for mobilization to “save the peace process.” Thus, the evidence presented does not support the video’s claim that Algeria entered the war against Israel.
