How the answers frame Qualcomm
PeakMetrics put 250 benchmark questions that never named a brand to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok on 2026-09-29, which produced 1,250 answers. Qualcomm was named in 9 of them. By provider: Grok 5, Claude 3, ChatGPT 1, and none in Gemini or Perplexity. Visibility by question intent peaked at 4% for innovation and sat at 2% or lower for every other intent, including 0% for reliability, leadership and AI responsibility.
The two stored answers that named Qualcomm show the pattern. In Claude's answer on new product launches, the headline companies were Apple, Google, Samsung, Meta and Sony. Qualcomm appeared only inside the Samsung entry, as the chipset behind a headset. In Grok's answer on security updates, the visible text centers on Fairphone, Google Pixel, Samsung and Apple. Qualcomm was tagged as named, but it does not appear in the portion of text stored. The data records no substantive attribute for Qualcomm in these answers.
Sector peers show how wide the gap is in this snapshot. Google was named in 813 of 1,250 answers, Apple in 566 and Microsoft in 528. Intel, the nearest peer, appeared in 33, and Qualcomm was last in the peer set.
Samsung is also launching Project Moohan, a headset running Android XR that looks like ski goggles and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset…
What the press is saying
The PeakMetrics news index shows 23,505 Qualcomm mentions in the last 30 days, and 4,068 of them carry the brand in the headline. That volume is close to Intel's 22,921 and well below Google's 700,366.
The recent headlines cluster around a few storylines. One is stock: "How to Trade Qualcomm Stock Near Multi-Month Highs." Another is AI data centers: "Qualcomm Just Got a 'Foothold' in the AI Data Center Race." A third is investment, with Qualcomm Ventures backing a wearables company's funding round. The fourth is partner products, such as headphones marketed with Qualcomm ANC technology.
The gap
Press coverage and AI visibility are different things, and this snapshot shows it. Qualcomm draws news volume comparable to Intel, yet the assistants named it in a small fraction of answers. The press storylines (investor interest, data-center ambitions, partner launches) do not appear in the two stored answers.
Where the answers did place Qualcomm, it was in support of someone else's product story. The assistants credited the launch to Samsung and treated Qualcomm as a component.
What to watch
For a comms team, the takeaway is about where the brand shows up. In this snapshot, category questions about launches and product support produced Qualcomm mentions only alongside device makers. Questions about reliability, trust, leadership and AI responsibility produced almost none.
Two things are worth tracking in later runs: whether the data-center and AI storylines from the press ever enter assistant answers, and which cited domains the assistants draw on for chipset questions. Live answers vary between runs, so this is one measurement on one date, not a ranking.
