How the answers frame Dove
This snapshot is from 2026-09-29. It covers ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok, with 250 benchmark questions each and no brand named in any question. Dove was named in 90 of the 1,250 answers. By assistant: Grok 27 of 250, Gemini 23, ChatGPT 20, Claude 13, Perplexity 7. Dove's visibility was highest on leadership questions (27%), then safety (18%), avoid (13%) and trust (10%). It was near zero on reliability, service and shopping experience.
Most mentions are list entries, not descriptions. Claude's entry-level marketing answer placed Dove under Unilever's brands. Gemini's answer on the biggest beauty companies did the same. Perplexity and Gemini listed Dove among top-selling US haircare brands. The tagged themes match: of the credits recorded, most were "Not Substantive", with a few for Safety & Compliance and one for Financial Performance.
The context runs in both directions. Perplexity's trust answer said Dove and Colgate tied for first in one consumer-trust ranking. Gemini's sensitive-skin deodorant answer listed Dove's 0% Aluminum sticks among its recommendations. Claude included Dove in a closing list of sensitive-skin brands.
Dove also appeared where the question asked about problems. ChatGPT named it among brands that come up most often in deodorant rash and burn complaint threads, and called that "an anecdotal pattern, not a formal count." In two lawsuit answers, Gemini and Grok linked Unilever brands including Dove to benzene in aerosol products. Grok also named Unilever after Johnson & Johnson, which it described as facing far more lawsuits.
Dove and Colgate tied for first in one consumer-trust ranking, with Maybelline third.
What the press is saying
PeakMetrics' news index recorded 1,144 Dove mentions over the last 30 days, 219 of them with the brand in the headline. The recent headlines are mostly retail and product news. Several are coupon and deal posts for Dove soap, hand wash and hair care at Walgreens and Amazon. Others cover a new Dove deodorant that "introduces skincare to underarms" and a new Advanced Care deodorant range.
Unilever has faced litigation and issued recalls for aerosol products (such as dry shampoos and antiperspirants) due to the presence of benzene, a known carcinogen.
The gap
The press story is about products and prices. The AI story is about where Dove sits on category lists, including lists of trusted brands and lists of contamination or complaint concerns. The sampled headlines do not mention the benzene or rash themes that appeared in the answers.
Coverage volume and answer presence also diverge. In this snapshot Dove had more news mentions than CeraVe, Neutrogena and Maybelline, but fewer answer appearances. Sephora, Ulta Beauty and L'Oréal each appeared in about 300 or more answers. That is one run, not a ranking, but it shows that press volume does not translate directly into AI visibility.
Widely praised by dermatologists for being gentle and moisturizing.
What to watch
A comms team would take three things from this snapshot. First, Dove is often described through its parent company, so Unilever-level topics, including the benzene aerosol recalls the answers repeated, can attach to the Dove name. Second, the deodorant category surfaces Dove in both recommendation and complaint contexts, so the deodorant launch coverage is worth tracking against how assistants answer deodorant questions. Third, questions about trust, safety and what to avoid are where Dove's name appears most often outside of leadership lists.
Live answers vary between runs. These figures are one dated sample, and the 13 stored answers reviewed here are a subset of the 90 that named Dove.
