How the answers frame Bristol Myers Squibb
This snapshot covers 250 benchmark questions across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok, measured on 2026-09-29. None of the questions named a brand. Bristol Myers Squibb was named in 78 of 1,250 answers. Grok accounted for the most appearances (34 of 250), followed by Perplexity (16), ChatGPT (12), Claude (10) and Gemini (6). Seven stored answers are supplied here as a sample of those appearances.
In those seven, the company is usually one name in a list. Claude's answer on phase 3 failures grouped it with Johnson & Johnson on the halted milvexian trial. Grok's answer on the same question named it among several large drugmakers. Gemini's answer on drug pricing listed it among the companies that testified before Congress in 2019, and again for a February 2024 Senate HELP hearing and a September 2020 House hearing. ChatGPT included it in a list of oncology pipeline names, but with no separate account of what it does.
The one answer that describes a company practice is Perplexity's, on executive pay. It attributes to Bristol Myers Squibb a Sustainability Scorecard in its senior executive incentive program. ChatGPT also named the company among examples of drug makers linking pay to sustainability targets. The credited-for tags are thin. Five mentions were tagged "Not Substantive" and one "Sustainability & Ethics."
By question intent, visibility in this snapshot was highest on leadership (12%), employer (11%) and pricing transparency (10%). It was 0% on value and service questions and low on reliability, trust and safety.
The Phase III trial of Milvexian (Factor XIa inhibitor) was halted early due to a lack of therapeutic efficacy, with J&J and BMS terminating the study which intended to enroll 16,000 patients.
What the press is saying
PeakMetrics' news index logged 9,333 mentions of Bristol Myers Squibb over the last 30 days. Of those, 1,076 had the company in the headline.
The recent headlines fall into three groups. The first is stock performance, such as "Are Medical Stocks Lagging Bristol Myers Squibb (BMY) This Year?" from nasdaq.com. The second is clinical data: the company announced the first presentation of phase 3 EXCALIBER-RRMM results for ZENBEXUS (iberdomide) with daratumumab in relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma, and that release was syndicated across several sites. The third is a personnel item. BioMarin announced that Robert Plenge, Bristol Myers Squibb's Chief Research Officer, is joining its board.
…says its senior executives’ annual incentive program uses a Sustainability Scorecard, including progress on patient-access goals in low- and middle-income countries.
The gap
The press storylines are market performance and a pipeline data release. The AI answers in this sample carry a different set of associations: a shared phase 3 failure, past pricing hearings, and a pay-linked sustainability scorecard. The multiple myeloma trial results in the headlines do not appear in any of the seven sampled answers.
Press volume also does not map neatly onto answer visibility. Amgen and Merck each have more than twice Bristol Myers Squibb's 30-day news mentions, yet Bristol Myers Squibb is named in more answers than Amgen and fewer than Merck. Johnson & Johnson (192 of 1,250 answers) and Pfizer (174) are named far more often than Bristol Myers Squibb (78), on news volumes that are also higher. Neither press volume nor answer counts here should be read as a fixed ranking.
What to watch
First, the milvexian association. Claude's answer places the company inside a phase 3 failure narrative on a question from a journalist persona. Comms teams can check whether the same framing recurs when that question is asked again, since live answers vary between runs.
Second, the pricing history. Gemini's answer draws on hearings from 2019, 2020 and 2024, so older testimony can shape how the company is described on current pricing questions.
Third, the sustainability scorecard. It is the only company-specific practice in the sample, and Perplexity's answer says the company itself reports it. Whether current company material on that practice and on the multiple myeloma data reaches the answers is worth tracking.
This is a single snapshot of seven sampled answers. It is a starting point for benchmarking, not a trend.
