How the answers frame Amazon
This is a snapshot from 2026-09-28: five assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok) answered 25 category questions that never named a brand. Amazon appeared in 14 of those answers. It surfaced on four topics: data trustworthiness, worst privacy records, responsible AI and antitrust scrutiny. The answers credited it mostly under Safety & Compliance (five times), with three mentions classed as not substantive and one on price and value.
On data trust, the framing split. Perplexity said Amazon "sometimes leads in broader trust surveys", and Gemini's summary grouped it with Apple and Microsoft as more trusted than social platforms. Grok placed it among the "lower-ranked or more scrutinized" big tech names, and ChatGPT only listed it as one of five companies it offered to compare. On the privacy-record question, Amazon appeared in all four answers that were captured. Claude cited a $25 million FTC penalty over children's voice recordings on Alexa. Perplexity called it "consistently near the bottom in privacy-focused rankings and scores low in the cited privacy report."
On antitrust, all five assistants named Amazon, and every one of them put Google first. Amazon was in the supporting group. Gemini described an FTC and state lawsuit filed in 2023 with a trial scheduled for late 2026. Claude mentioned litigation over pricing practices. On responsible AI, one Perplexity answer ranked Amazon second on its short list, citing a source quoting the company on releasing models only when "ready and safe."

What the press is saying
The PeakMetrics news index recorded 102,927 mentions of Amazon in the last 30 days, with the brand in the headline of 20,246 of them. That is heavier coverage than Apple (65,278) or Meta (62,537), though well below Microsoft (149,498) and Google (700,366).
The sampled headlines are about an Amazon cargo plane crash at Miami airport and the related NTSB findings, a Motley Fool comparison of Apple and Amazon stock, and consumer deal stories such as a discounted shoe and kids' electric vehicles.
…sometimes leads in broader trust surveys…
The gap
Press attention and AI attention are aimed at different subjects. The recent headlines concern an aviation incident, investor comparisons and retail promotions. The assistants' answers concern data handling, regulatory fines and antitrust litigation. None of the sampled headlines touch those themes.
Volume does not translate directly into visibility either. Amazon has more news mentions than Apple and Meta, yet it was named in slightly fewer answers than either (14, against 16 and 15). Google, with far more coverage, was named in 24 of 25. Of the ten tech brands in this set, only Amazon and Microsoft sit near the top of both lists, but Amazon's answer mentions were mostly as a companion name.
What to watch
A comms team for Amazon should note that in this snapshot the assistants tie the brand to regulatory and privacy themes, while its news cycle is operational and commercial. Those two stories are not the same, and only the AI story shows up when someone asks a general question about trust or privacy.
It is worth checking which sources the assistants cite when they describe Amazon's privacy and antitrust position, since specific fines, rankings and lawsuits recur across answers. It is also worth noting that in the responsible-AI answer Amazon was credited for a stance on safe release. These are single runs from two of the assistants' many possible answers, so treat them as a baseline to re-measure, not a settled picture.
