Samsung deliberately uses software updates to crash or slow down older flagship devices

Publisher’s rating: Missing Context

The review says there is no evidence Samsung deliberately slows older flagship phones to push consumers toward newer models, and notes that Samsung denies doing so. It distinguishes intentional slowdown from reported update bugs, which it describes as unintentional issues Samsung addressed by halting faulty updates and working on fixes.

The picture depicts “19 Yazidi girls in Mosul who refused to convert to Islam, paraded around the city by ISIS before being burned alive in a cage.”

Publisher’s rating: Misleading

The image shows Egyptian female protesters in Abu El Matamir in December 2013, staging a symbolic protest in support of ousted president Mohamed Morsi—not Yazidi girls or an ISIS parade. The review also says the specific report of 19 Yazidi women burned alive in cages was never independently verified.

Sniffing rosemary can increase memory performance by 75%

Publisher’s rating: Misleading

The review says the 75% figure arose from a media misreporting of a 2013 study: the reported improvement was about 7.5% in prospective memory tasks, not 75%. It describes the research as showing modest, task-dependent effects, with results varying by study and conditions.

Alles in Farbe.

Publisher’s rating:

The review says the first image was from September 9, 2024, when al-Rahwi and ministers inspected celebration sites for the Prophet’s birthday. The second was from mid-August 2024, during his participation in a Friday march at 70th Square in solidarity with Gaza—not a recent appearance.
