The claim warned that CDs containing Koran songs had been smeared with harmful chemicals and were being sent in an envelope labeled “Classical Christmas music with a story.” The review traces this warning to a rumor that had circulated online since 2016, including claims that treated CDs were being placed in mailboxes. It reports that the police had already denied that such incidents occurred, and that its later inquiry found no evidence that the CDs had actually been distributed. To check the story’s origins, the review says it searched terms such as “Koran-CDs” and “Weilheim” and found reporting from 2016 about the rumor’s circulation on WhatsApp and Facebook. It recounts that police in the relevant region told media and posted on Facebook that no such incidents had occurred. In a December 2016 interview, a spokesperson for the Upper Bavaria South Police Headquarters called the claim a hoax; the review says neither the state criminal police nor the Weilheim criminal police could confirm the alleged events, and no one had been hospitalized for poisoning. The review also reports a fresh inquiry to the Upper Bavaria South Police Headquarters: a police chief inspector said nobody in Weilheim was hospitalized because of such an incident and described the story as a false report that had circulated in 2016. The images shared with current posts showed a brown envelope bearing the sender name “Menschen für Menschen”; the review notes that the same images and claim had already been addressed in a 2019 fact-check, which included a denial from the foundation. It distinguishes these circulating claims from proof of any actual distribution: the reported police checks and inquiries did not substantiate that CDs with harmful substances had been sent.

Tamil Nadu government displayed an anti-Hindu stance by closing down a warehouse of Ganesh idols

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerned a video of officials closing a Ganesh-idol warehouse in Karur, Tamil Nadu, and artisans appealing against the action. The review says the footage did show the closure, but argues that the communal interpretation left out the stated regulatory reason: officials said they found the makers using prohibited materials, including Plaster of Paris (PoP). It reports that the state pollution-control officials sealed the warehouse for violating pollution rules, rather than because the idols were Hindu.
