The claim concerns a Sharepic that attributes a statement about IS missionaries and “godless” AfD voters to Annette Kurschus, then spells her first name “Anette.” The dpa review says the image apparently originated on the Halle-Leaks blog, which reportedly posted it on 2 November 2016. Its account identifies the central mismatch: the blog post used the image to illustrate a text that quoted imprecisely from a Kurschus interview in the Neue Westfälische on 31 October 2016, but the interview did not contain the Sharepic’s alleged statement. The review reports that Kurschus said she could not vote for the AfD, while also saying she wanted to understand why some Christians supported it. It says she did not describe AfD voters as godless, and that the Islamic State was not discussed in the interview. The review also reports that the Evangelical Church of Westphalia had known about the false quotation for some time. According to the church’s spokesperson, the matter had been referred to the Bielefeld prosecutor’s office about two years earlier; the investigation was discontinued because the person responsible could not be identified. The spokesperson said the church would continue efforts to oppose circulation of the false quotation. These reported steps concern the same fabricated attribution, but the excerpt does not describe independent forensic examination of the image or identify who created it.
