Video of a Yogi who was found alive after being buried for 300 years in Tamil Nadu

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerns a video said to show a yogi found alive after being buried for 300 years at Valliyur Temple in Tamil Nadu. FACTLY’s review identifies the man in the video as Alexander, a resident of Kazakhstan, and concludes that the video does not show the claimed discovery: “The man in the video is neither a Yogi nor was buried for 300 years in Tamil Nadu.” The review describes using Yandex Reverse Image Search on screenshots from the video. It says that search found articles with similar visuals, and that a Daily Mail article identified the man as Alexander P, from Aktobe city in Kazakhstan. The review reports that the same video had previously circulated with a different claim—that he had been attacked by a bear—and says that reporting instead attributed his condition to psoriasis. As supporting context, FACTLY quotes the doctor who treated Alexander as saying he had psoriasis, worsened by not seeking medical treatment. The review also notes that other media agencies reported his later death from sepsis after infected psoriasis wounds. That account supplies a medical explanation for the man’s appearance in the video; it does not support the claim that he was a yogi or had been buried for centuries.
