Demnach soll er gesagt haben: «Der Koran lehrt Angst, Hass, Verachtung für Andere, Mord als legitimes Mittel zur Verbreitung und zum Erhalt dieser Satanslehre, er redet die Frauen schlecht, stuft Menschen in Klassen ein, fordert Blut und immer wieder Blut...». Als Quellenangabe wird ein Brief an König Friedrich II. aus dem Jahr 1740 angegeben.

Publisher’s rating: Die Quellenangabe ist falsch: In den Briefen von Voltaire an Friedrich den Großen aus dem Jahr 1740 ist keine entsprechende Äußerung zu finden. Auch bei der Suche in anderen Werken und Schriften findet sich Experten zufolge kein Beleg für eine derartige Aussage Voltaires.

The claim attributes a lengthy denunciation of the Koran to Voltaire and says it came from a 1740 letter to King Friedrich II. The investigation checked that specific correspondence and also searched for the wording in other works and letters. Roman Kuhn, a researcher at the Free University of Berlin’s Institute of Romance Philology, said the cited letter does not contain the alleged passage; searches of scholarly databases found no evidence of it elsewhere. Gillian Pink of the Voltaire Foundation likewise found no supporting attribution and said the passage did not sound like Voltaire. Er wirbt mit enormen Preissenkungen. «Wir sind traurig zu verkünden, dass wir unsere Sammlung schließen», heißt es in einem Facebook-Beitrag des Mode-Anbieters. «Bevor diese Artikel weg sind, kaufen Sie riesige Rabatte auf unsere Damen Retro Schlichte Martin-Stiefelette.» Aber ist der Online-Shop seriös?
