「自民党政治と安倍政権の実績」と安倍元首相に関する“歴代ワースト”をまとめた画像

Publisher’s rating: 虚偽

The review investigates an image circulated as a record of the “achievements of the Abe administration,” containing alleged all-time worst figures across several fields. It reports that the image spread on Twitter on July 31, alongside a reference to a television program about what former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe left behind. The review says the compilation was not a newly assembled record of Abe-era outcomes: it was a copied list that had circulated in earlier political periods, with material added and the Abe framing applied later.

Publisher’s rating: Altered

The claim concerns a social-media image presented as a newspaper article in which businessman Nandana Lokuwithana supposedly says that the country could be developed if the JVP were not hypocritical. The investigation identifies the image as an edited version of a real newspaper page, rather than evidence that Lokuwithana made that statement. It reports that it could not find the purported headline in a national newspaper and says the circulating image was made by changing the headline and other parts of an existing article. (S1) The review compared the viral image with a Divaina newspaper article about Lokuwithana dated January 17, 2021. The authentic article’s headline was about who Lokuwithana was, describing him as a man from Medawachchiya who makes tires for the world. The review says the layout of that article matched the layout used in the circulating image and that the image had been assembled by combining parts of the original and editing the headline. (S1) The review also reports that Lokuwithana had shared the original article on Facebook in January 2021. Its conclusion is that the viral newspaper image was edited to make it appear that he had made the JVP-related statement; the excerpt does not establish that he actually said those words. (S1)

මහාචාර්ය තිස්ස විතාරණ හදිසි නීතිය පැනවීමට පක්ෂව ඡන්දය ලබා දුන්නා ද?

Publisher’s rating: Misleading

The allegation concerned Professor Tissa Vitharana’s position in the Sri Lankan Parliament’s July 27, 2022 vote on emergency regulations. The review says social media posts and some media reports claimed that he had voted in favour. The parliamentary vote approved extending emergency regulations for a further 30 days; it passed by 120 votes to 63, a majority of 57. The claim therefore concerned his vote on that parliamentary measure, not simply whether he supported emergency powers in general. To check the allegation, Fact Crescendo says it examined the live broadcast of the vote. It reports that Vitharana’s name did not appear on screen as having voted either for or against. The review also says that Parliament’s Secretary-General, Dhammika Dasanayake, confirmed in a parliamentary media statement that Vitharana had not voted on the resolution. Vitharana himself told the fact-checkers that he had not cast a vote. Taken together, the review’s account does not support the claim that Vitharana voted in favour: it reports that he did not vote either way. The distinction matters because a report naming him among those who voted for the measure would misrepresent his recorded participation, even though the extension itself was approved by Parliament.

Claim: Ambedkar not stated that abolish reservations once a tribal woman becomes indian president

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim under review attributes to B. R. Ambedkar a statement that reservations should be abolished when a tribal woman becomes India’s president. The review says the quotation circulated on social media and was linked to Droupadi Murmu becoming president. It reports that a reader sent the claim to Fact Crescendo’s WhatsApp chatbot asking whether it was true, and that the outlet saw it being shared as factual on Facebook. To check the attribution, the review says it searched records of Ambedkar’s speeches in India’s Parliament concerning reservations, social and economic issues, and women’s advancement. It reports that it did not find the alleged statement in those materials. It also searched Ambedkar’s writings on caste abolition, including *Annihilation of Caste*, and says the same claim did not appear there. The review further points readers to the government’s online collection of Ambedkar’s writings and speeches, saying it found no statement that reservations should be ended if a tribal woman became president. On the basis of these searches, Fact Crescendo concludes that the quotation was falsely attributed to Ambedkar. The excerpt describes searches of specified records and collections; it does not provide a full inventory of every document examined or establish that the quotation could not appear in any unexamined source.
