The claim concerns a photo circulated as showing Olena Zelenska aboard her private jet, surrounded by luxury goods supposedly bought during her visit to Paris. The review says Zelenska was in Paris from 12 to 14 December 2022, but concludes that the image was manipulated and does not show her on a private flight. It reports that her trip was connected to seeking support for Ukraine and included a conference on 13 and 14 December. The account of her travel provides a direct comparison with the image’s claim: the review says she travelled to France on a Ukrainian state aircraft, not a private plane. It identifies the aircraft as UR-ABA and reports that it flew from Poland to France on 11 December, then took her back to Poland on 14 December. The review also points to video of her arrival in France as evidence of the aircraft used. For the image itself, the review describes a reverse image search that traced its source to Richard Heart, who had posted the original photo on 8 April 2022. It says Zelenska was not present in that original image. Together, the reported source tracing and the travel evidence contradict the suggestion that the picture shows Zelenska returning from Paris in her private jet.

Video of Congress leader Jitendra Singh tying lace of Rahul Gandhi’s shoe at Bharat Jodo Yatra

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerns a video from Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in Rajasthan, said to show Congress leader Jitendra Singh tying Gandhi’s shoelace. FACTLY’s review says that footage from another angle depicts Singh tying his own shoe instead. It also points to a photo from before the moment in which Singh’s shoelace is undone. Together, those details support the review’s conclusion that the person whose lace is being tied is Singh, not Gandhi. [S1]

The claim draws on a 2015 Bundestag communication summarizing the federal government’s response to a parliamentary question about the alleged continued existence of the German Reich. That response referred to a 1973 Federal Constitutional Court ruling on the Basic Treaty between West Germany and East Germany. The dpa review explains that the ruling’s wording about the Reich’s continued existence and the legal identity of the Federal Republic and the Reich is being used to argue that Reich institutions still exist and that present-day federal institutions are illegitimate. It says that conclusion does not follow from the ruling. The review’s key distinction is between the state’s abstract status under international law and the existence of functioning institutions. In the ruling’s account, the Federal Republic was not a legal successor to the Reich but was identified with it as a subject of international law, carrying its international rights and obligations. The dpa review says this was a legal framework for determining how Germans were represented, not a finding that Reich institutions persisted. It also notes that the ruling described the Reich as unable to act because it lacked organization and institutional organs. The historical setting matters: the ruling concerned relations between the two German states during division, and the review says the shared legal reference point was intended to allow recognition of East Germany without foreclosing reunification. It concludes that the ruling instead recognizes the legitimacy and capacity to act of the Federal Republic’s institutional organs. The review also notes that German sovereignty was finally established after reunification through the Two Plus Four Treaty, which entered into force in March 1991.
