Claim: Narayanan thirupathy not warned aiadmk and edappadi palaniswami

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The review investigates a social-media news card attributed to Tamil Nadu BJP vice-president Narayanan Thirupathy. The card claimed he had warned that antagonising the BJP would be bad for AIADMK and Edappadi Palaniswami’s future, and included further assertions about election alliances and AIADMK’s seat prospects. The review says the card was shared on Facebook on June 12, 2023, and circulated by others as though published by news outlet Puthiya Thalaimurai. [S1] To check the card’s provenance, the publisher compared it with news cards on Puthiya Thalaimurai’s Facebook page and reported finding no matching card. It also searched for reports of Thirupathy making the alleged warning, but says it found none. The review then points to Thirupathy’s own Twitter post identifying the card as fake. Taken together, the checks address both the claimed publisher and the alleged statement; the review concludes that the circulating card was not genuine. [S1]

Barack Obama declaró en una entrevista con CBS que se necesita una “censura gubernamental” para erradicar los “medios independientes”.

Publisher’s rating: Falso

The claim concerns Barack Obama’s May 16, 2023, interview with Nate Burleson of CBS Mornings. The review says the interview did take place, but covered the My Brother’s Keeper initiative, gun reform, and Obama’s legacy. The alleged demand for government censorship was instead attributed to him in social-media posts and an article published by The People’s Voice. To check the attribution, the review reports searching Google in English for terms about Obama, CBS, and the May 2023 interview, then watching the interview recording, which it describes as 10 minutes and 56 seconds long. It found Obama discussing concern about a divided media environment and people inhabiting different realities. He also discussed the Obama Foundation’s goal of restoring shared conversation and facts. The review says it heard nothing supporting the alleged censorship demand and that Obama did not use the words “censorship” or “independent.” The review further reports a second Google search, in English and Spanish, for claims that Obama sought to eradicate independent media. It found a Snopes fact-check rejecting the attribution. Its conclusion is that Obama did speak about the media in the CBS interview, but did not say that independent media should be censored or eradicated. The excerpts do not provide the full interview transcript; this explanation therefore reflects the review’s account of its recording check and the reporting it cites.

Lula foi vaiado e chamado de ladrão na fábrica da Jeep

Publisher’s rating: Falso

The claim concerns a video said to show Lula being booed and called a thief during his visit to the Jeep factory in Goiana, Pernambuco. Boatos.org examined that specific allegation and said it found no reliable news source reporting hostilities during the visit: “Ao buscar por notícias sobre a visita de Lula na fábrica da Jeep, não encontramos em nenhuma fonte confiável que aponte que o presidente sofreu hostilidades durante a visita à fábrica em Goiana (PE).”
