Visuals of Union Minister Smriti dressed in inappropriate attire at the Indian Parliament.

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerns a viral video said to show Union Minister Smriti Irani wearing inappropriate attire in the Indian Parliament. FACTLY reports that the footage instead shows actress Urfi Javed at a fashion event in Mumbai, not Irani in Parliament. To investigate, the review says it performed a reverse image search, which returned multiple older videos dated May 2023 that identified the person as Javed. It then reports finding the complete video, showing her in the same attire at the Beti Fashion Fundraiser show in Mumbai that month. These findings identify both the person and the event shown in the viral footage, contradicting the claim’s identification and setting.

The video was presented online as leaked footage of a secret gathering of world leaders who had signed a “New World Order treaty.” The review identifies the footage instead as a speech by Mahathir Mohamad, a former Malaysian prime minister, at a March 9, 2015 international convention about the New World Order. It describes the event as a conference of Malaysia’s Perdana Global Peace Foundation, founded by Mohamad, rather than a private meeting of global leaders. The review says the conference was publicly announced and the full event could be watched on the foundation’s website and YouTube channel. The investigation points to details visible in the video: a large sign behind Mohamad indicates the convention’s context. It also reports checking the foundation’s Facebook post summarizing the conference’s speakers and subjects; that post named no other world leaders. The review further notes that it found no photographs in image databases or news articles establishing that political leaders of the time attended. It checked travel and public schedules for several prominent leaders: Obama was not scheduled to travel to Malaysia that month, Xi was in Beijing on March 9, Hollande was in Paris, and Putin’s listed March travel was to Kazakhstan. The review also addresses the treaty and conspiracy elements of the claim. It says the conference opposed the supposed New World Order rather than promoting it, and that the “New World Order treaty” mentioned in the online post does not exist. Mohamad did speak about an alleged plan to reduce the global population to one billion, but the review reports no evidence for such a plan and identifies the secret-elite account as an unsubstantiated conspiracy theory. It concludes that the video was neither leaked nor evidence of a secret gathering of world leaders.
