(sic)”.

Publisher’s rating: Falso

The video alleges that Lula refused to leave flowers at the Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem, while also saying he placed flowers at Yasser Arafat’s tomb. The review says the first allegation is contradicted by Lula’s visit on March 16, 2010: during an official trip to Israel, he deposited a wreath in Brazil’s colors on the floor of the Hall of Remembrance. The second claim is accurate, according to the review: Lula visited Arafat’s mausoleum in Ramallah the following day. The review reports that Comprova checked the matter and describes additional ceremonies at the Jerusalem site: Lula lit a flame in memory of six million Jews killed by the Nazi regime and planted an olive sapling in Jerusalem’s forest. These details support that the video’s account omitted the wreath-laying and other parts of the visit; the accurate statement about Arafat does not establish that Lula refused to leave flowers at the museum.

Publisher’s rating: Enganoso

The claim concerns a viral TikTok video that uses a photograph of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Joe Biden to suggest that Biden told Lula to focus on putting food on Brazilians’ tables instead of the war. The Folha review says the video spread after the Hamas-Israel war began and directly rejects the attribution to Biden: “Um vídeo que viralizou após o início da guerra entre o grupo palestino Hamas e Israel engana ao afirmar que o presidente americano, Joe Biden, teria dito a Lula para se preocupar em colocar comida nas mesas dos brasileiros, e não com a guerra.” The review traces the similar wording to Juan Gonzalez, not Biden. It identifies Gonzalez as a senior Western Hemisphere director on the White House National Security Council and says he made the comment in April 2023 in response to Lula’s position on the war in Ukraine. The review quotes Gonzalez describing a Brazilian’s concerns as including food, education and economic opportunities, rather than a conflict in Europe. That attribution and setting matter: the similar remark was not a Biden statement about the later Hamas-Israel war. The review describes searches for the post’s keywords, including “comida” and “guerra,” alongside the presidents’ names. It says those searches found no confirmation of a recent Biden statement and that the closest matching result was an April 2023 Folha report about Gonzalez’s remarks. English-language searches instead surfaced the leaders’ September 20 meeting in New York, before the attack on Israel; the review says both avoided discussing the Russia-Ukraine war at that meeting. The evidence therefore supports the conclusion that the video misattributes an earlier, differently situated comment.

The image was shared as showing opposition leader Mu Sochua swimming with an activist, with posts implying a secret romantic relationship. Fact Crescendo examined the image using a reverse image search and TinEye, which led it to footage on Shutterstock with matching details. The review reports that the footage shows a white couple swimming in a pool, not Sochua and an opposition activist. The review compared the circulated image with a frame from the footage and concluded that the image had been digitally edited. It says the original footage’s Shutterstock caption described “a young family with a baby in a swimming pool on vacation.” Thus, the underlying pool scene is real, but the people in the circulated image were misidentified.

The claim concerns a video circulated with subtitles alleging that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned America against involvement in the Middle East and promised support to Palestine. The APA review says the video was shared in large German-language Telegram groups during the escalation of the conflict, but traces the footage to an earlier occasion: Erdogan’s July 26 meeting in Ankara with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. To identify the footage, the review describes using digital research techniques, including reverse image search. It says the clip matches a segment of a speech published by Middle East Eye on YouTube: the circulated excerpt runs from about 0:08 to 0:25. The review points to the subtitles added to that published video as evidence that the remarks were not about America. Instead, Erdogan expressed concern about what he described as increasing violence by Jewish settlers and offered condolences for Palestinian deaths; APA’s Turkish-speaking editors also confirmed that interpretation. The review further says it could not find the alleged statement. Its account distinguishes the old footage from Erdogan’s later positions and actions during the current conflict: those do not establish that the quoted warning and promise were made in this video. The central mismatch is therefore between the circulated subtitles and the content and timing of the original recording.
