The viral post attributed to Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain the statement that not one of 30,000 people at the Nizamuddin Markaz tested positive, while a beggar outside did. The Quint’s review says the claim concerned the Tablighi Jamaat event held at the Markaz in March and that the viral video clipped a longer recording. To check the clip, the review notes that an ANI microphone was visible and says it searched ANI’s YouTube channel for videos featuring Jain. It located the full video from which the viral snippet had been taken. In that recording, Jain was discussing Delhi’s testing and said that 30,000 people in 6,000 homes in Nizamuddin had been scanned. He described one positive case as the beggar who sat outside the Markaz, and said others had been found clear so far. The distinction is that Jain was describing the result of scanning people in Nizamuddin—not saying that no one from the Markaz had tested positive. The review also cites a Hindustan Times report saying that, on 15 April, 1,080 of the 1,561 people being treated for coronavirus in Delhi were linked to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation. That reported figure further contradicts the post’s implication that no congregation-linked people had tested positive.

The claim attached a specific interpretation to a circulating video: that it showed two Italian brothers, their mother had died of pneumonia, and the younger child was calling to her in the sky. The Taiwan FactCheck Center examined the video and found that the speakers were using Spanish, not Italian. It also reported that the footage does not identify the cause of the mother’s death, so the pneumonia detail in the message is not established by the video. To investigate the claimed location, the center searched in Spanish and found clearer versions of the same video: one shared on Twitter on February 19, 2020, and another uploaded to YouTube the following day. In those versions, it identified a plate reading “HAF 7944,” with a white background and a blue horizontal band across the top. The review says that this format did not match the Italian plates it compared, which have blue vertical bands at the sides. The center then compared the plate with examples in two plate-reference websites. It found the video’s horizontal-band format consistent with Uruguay’s plates and with the Mercosur format described in a study on Brazilian plate detection. Together with the Spanish-language speech, this evidence supports the review’s conclusion that the video is from South America, not Italy. The footage does not establish the claimed pneumonia cause of death.
