The viral video shows Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan discussing election strategies and referring to Kamal Nath

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerns a video presented as showing Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan discussing election strategy with officials and saying that Congress leader Kamal Nath and his party needed to be stopped. FACTLY identifies the footage as a review meeting about a fire at Bhopal’s Satpura Bhawan, not an election-strategy discussion. It reports that the meeting took place on 13 June 2023. To trace the footage, the fact-check describes using the ANI logo visible in the clip to search online. That led to an ANI post dated 13 June 2023, whose description identifies the scene as Chouhan reviewing the Satpura Bhawan fire with state ministers and senior officials. FACTLY says it found similar meeting footage on ANI News’s YouTube channel as well. The decisive comparison is the audio: according to FACTLY, both the ANI video and the similar YouTube video lacked audio, whereas the viral clip included a voice-over making the alleged political remarks. The review concludes that audio was digitally added to the original meeting footage. FACTLY also says an internet search for instances of Chouhan making the statements found no positive results. Its account therefore identifies the underlying footage as genuine meeting visuals but the audio and resulting portrayal as manipulated.

A video clip shows Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling Hindutva a ‘card to play the election game’

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

FACTLY investigated a viral clip presented as showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling Hindutva a “card to play the election game.” Its review says the clip came from an older interview and that the viral version omitted a word that changes the meaning of his statement. The review identifies that word as “nahi,” meaning “not.” To trace the clip, the review says it searched for older Modi interviews discussing Hindutva after noticing that he appeared younger in the footage. It reports finding an interview posted by Zee News, described there as a 24-year-old interview, and says the viral clip was extracted from it. The review locates the relevant passage at 10:27 in that interview. In the longer passage, the review reports that Modi said Hindutva “is not a card to play the election game.” It says the viral version removed “nahi,” making the statement appear to assert the opposite of what he said. Thus, the evidence cited in the review addresses the exact clip and explains the misleading edit: the disputed wording is not presented with the negation heard in the source interview.
