Claim: DMK Leader MK Stalin denied Hindus vote

Publisher’s rating: Fact Crescendo Rating: False

The claim concerned a viral image made to look like a tweet from DMK leader M.K. Stalin. It purported to say that people who go to temples should not vote for the DMK; some posts framed this as Stalin saying the party did not want Hindu votes. The review says the image was being recirculated during the 2019 election period, although it described the allegation as originating in March 2018. To check it, Fact Crescendo says it searched Google for evidence about the post and found a statement on Stalin’s official Twitter account. In that statement, Stalin said that a fabricated image imitating his Twitter page had circulated and that it attributed views to him that he had not expressed. The review also reports that R.S. Bharathi, the DMK’s organising secretary, filed a complaint with Chennai police over the image. The review concludes that the image was not a genuine post by Stalin but a fabricated one being shared again. That evidence addresses the specific attribution behind the claim: the apparent screenshot was not proof that Stalin had said he did not want temple-goers’ or Hindus’ votes. The review labels its result “False.”
