The Government has committed to the “highest real-term spending on schools in history” for the year 2023-2024.
Publisher’s rating: Missing context: In cash terms – without taking into account spending per pupil – school spending for 2023-2024 is £57.3 billion, an increase of 64% compared to the £35.0 billion allocated in 2010. But the Government’s spending announcement came after more than a decade of cuts to school spending in England when adjusted for inflation – this is what is meant by “real term spending”. According to think tank the Institute for Fiscal Studies, an independent economics research institute, real-term spending per pupil declined by about 9%, from £7,260 to £6,640, between 2009-2010 and 2019-2020 and is not expected to recover until 2024/25. Luke Sibieta, research fellow at the IFS and author of its annual report on education spending, told the PA news agency that spending per pupil – adjusted for inflation – is the most accurate measure of resources available to schools as it takes into account increases in the number of pupils over that period.

The review examines the allegation that Chinese president Xi Jinping ordered teachings of Thailand’s King Rama IX to be included in textbooks for students across China. It describes the claim as circulating alongside images of the king’s teachings in Thai and Chinese. The review reports that it found no evidence supporting the alleged order or the claimed inclusion in China’s curriculum. To investigate the images, the publisher says it used reverse image search and contacted the International Student Education Center at Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University, which had shared the image set. The center said it had neither created the material nor been involved in placing it elsewhere; it had shared the images to commemorate the king. The review also says it searched online platforms including Baidu and Weibo for information about the curriculum allegation, but found no relevant reports or information. The review traces the images to Thai social-media posts from 2016 and 2017 that shared the king’s teachings in Thai and Chinese. It says those posts had no connection to Xi Jinping or any official Chinese source. The article notes a possible source of confusion: separate reporting, attributed to Reuters, concerned the Chinese government preparing to include Xi Jinping’s own ideas in China’s curriculum. That is not evidence that the king’s teachings were ordered into Chinese textbooks.
OMS e ONU orientam escolas a equipar crianças para terem parceiros sexuais
Publisher’s rating: Falsa. A informação divulgada nessas postagens é falsa.

The review examines a social-media claim questioning whether Pita Limjaroenrat graduated from Harvard. The claim relied in part on an allegation that a search of Harvard’s alumni directory did not find his name, and on the assertion that Harvard Kennedy School—where Pita studied—was not Harvard University. The review places those claims in the context of remarks by Ruangkrai Leekitwattana, who said he had been told that the two institutions were different and that a Harvard alumnus had searched the directory. The review explains that Harvard Kennedy School is part of Harvard University, describing it as a school focused on public policy and government and noting that it offers graduate and other programs. It also reports that the school’s Winter 2016 magazine identified Pita as a member of its 2011 alumni cohort. Separately, the review says a social-media user posted an image of a Harvard alumni-directory search in which Pita’s name and graduation year appeared. These pieces of evidence address both the institutional distinction asserted in the claim and the claim that his name could not be found in the directory. The review adds that Pita had posted a Harvard student ID and graduation photographs, and that international media described his education as including graduate study in public policy at Harvard. It concludes that the claim that he did not graduate from Harvard University is misleading: Harvard Kennedy School is part of the university, and the review reports that Pita appears in its alumni directory. The excerpt does not provide the underlying magazine page or directory image itself, but identifies them as the evidence it relied on.

The claim concerns a social-media image presented as showing the Kalutara tuition teacher accused of abusing girls. The review says it examined whether the person shown was the person involved in that case. It reports that a 30-year-old man, named in the article as Sanka Dimantha Jayawickrama, had been arrested in connection with sexual abuse of students attending tuition classes in the Kalutara area and remanded until May 26. The review says mainstream media had reported his name and Facebook details, including photographs from his account. [S1] The investigation compared the circulated image with photographs attributed to the teacher and traced the image to Samin Dilanka’s Facebook account. The review says it contacted Dilanka by telephone; he described himself as an activist involved in the protest movement, denied ever having been a teacher, and said his photograph had been used to create false posts for political advantage. The review’s conclusion is that the image was of Dilanka, not the arrested teacher. [S1] The finding is specifically about who appears in the image. The article expressly cautions that it did not investigate the political affiliation of either the person shown or the teacher, so it does not establish or assess the post’s political characterization.
