Correos te pide que pagues gastos de envío por email

Publisher’s rating: Falso

Newtral examined an email that appeared to come from Correos and requested payment after an alleged failed delivery. The message told recipients to pay between one and two euros in delivery costs to receive a package. The review reports that Correos confirmed the messages did not come from its servers and that it never asks for personal or bank details by email. Correos’s security team also analyzed the payment URLs in the email. According to the review, its conclusion was that the linked site was attempting to steal information. The email’s request for a small delivery fee therefore did not establish that it was a genuine Correos charge: the source describes it as an impersonation and phishing attempt. The review advises people who receive a suspicious email not to follow its links or provide personal or banking information. It identifies Correos and Spain’s National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) as sources for its reporting.

Mukesh Ambani’s wealth is 10 lakh crore rupees in 2019.

Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING

The post examined by FACTLY claimed that Mukesh Ambani’s wealth rose from 4 lakh crore in 2017 to 10 lakh crore in 2019. The review distinguishes Ambani’s personal net worth from the market value of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), the company he leads. Its central finding is that the 10-lakh-crore figure referred to RIL’s market capitalization, not Ambani’s wealth. To check the figures, FACTLY says it searched Forbes for Ambani’s net worth and searched Google for the 10-lakh-crore figure. It reports that Forbes showed his net worth at around 4.3 lakh crore at the time of the review, while RIL reached a market capitalization of 10 lakh crore in November 2019. The two figures describe different things: one is an estimate of an individual’s net worth; the other is the market value of a company’s shares. The review’s later update gives Forbes India Rich List figures for both years: Ambani’s net worth was 38 billion dollars, or 2.72 lakh crore rupees, in 2017, and 52.4 billion dollars, or 3.76 lakh crore rupees, in 2019. Thus, the post’s 10-lakh-crore figure does not represent his reported personal net worth, although the update records that his net worth increased between the two years. The post also linked the figure to India’s GDP growth; FACTLY notes that the 4.5% figure applied to the second quarter of 2019–20, not the whole financial year.
