The review addresses claims in Facebook posts about alleged connections among companies and other organizations, including that GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) belonged to Pfizer and that an “Open Foundation Company” was involved in managing AXA. It reports that the Pfizer–GSK ownership claim is false: the companies are competitors, and the review cites shareholder information showing Pfizer was not among GSK’s largest shareholders. It also notes that their consumer-healthcare joint venture had a defined ownership split, rather than Pfizer owning GSK. The review says the purported “Open Foundation Company” does not exist. It suggests the post may be confusing that name with the Open Society Foundations or Soros Fund Management. Neither, the review says, manages the French AXA group. It distinguishes AXA from AXA Equitable Holdings, a US financial-services company that AXA had previously acquired; AXA sold its remaining stake in Equitable Holdings in 2019. Thus, the cited investment connection to a separate US company does not establish control of AXA.

"You promised in three manifestos to reform council tax - why are people still paying council tax?"
Publisher’s rating: The abolition or reform of council tax was indeed promised three times, but changes have been limited.
The BBC’s review examined whether the SNP had failed to deliver on promises to reform or abolish council tax. It reports that the promises were made three times, while concluding that changes to the tax itself had been limited. The excerpt does not identify the three manifesto documents, so it does not allow their wording or timing to be checked individually. The account describes a proposed replacement in 2007: the incoming SNP administration said the “hated council tax” would be replaced with a local income tax. As a minority administration, it could not secure enough support for that proposal, but it began freezing council tax. After gaining a majority in 2011, the SNP continued the freeze and negotiated reforms under which people with bigger houses paid slightly more. After nine years, councils were briefly allowed to raise the tax; it was then frozen again for the following year and for 2021–22. The review also gives context for the claim that people were still paying council tax: freezing or adjusting the tax was not the same as abolishing it. It reports average 2020–21 band D bills of £1,308 in Scotland, £1,667 in Wales and £1,818 in England. Those comparisons address the separate argument that council tax was lower in Scotland; they do not show that the tax had been abolished.
"One in four children in Scotland live in poverty. In her own constituency almost 50% of children live in poverty"
Publisher’s rating: The first part of the claim is correct. But the claim about the first minister's constituency is more difficult to get to the bottom of.
«A gennaio 2021 l’export italiano segna +2,3% congiunturale con + 1 mld di saldo commerciale rispetto a gennaio 2020. Tra le grandi economie, esclusa la Cina, l’Italia è quella che ha maggiormente contenuto il calo dell'export»
Publisher’s rating: C'eri quasi
The review assesses statements made by Italian undersecretary for foreign affairs Manlio Di Stefano about exports. It finds that his January 2021 figures were correctly reported: exports rose 2.3 per cent from December 2020, and the trade balance increased by more than one billion euros. But it notes an important omitted comparison: exports were down 8.5 per cent from January 2020. The review also says the difference in working days between those two Januarys may have contributed to the year-on-year fall. The international ranking claim concerned export changes from the end of 2019 to the end of 2020. The review explains that a chart Di Stefano shared came from a March 22 Repubblica article and used ICE data that were incomplete: Canada was missing, and the German figures in the ranking were outdated. To check the comparison, Pagella Politica says it consulted statistical databases for the G7 countries, Spain and China, using the most up-to-date figures available on March 22. Those figures did not support Italy as the country, apart from China, that best contained its export decline. Canada’s exports fell 4.1 per cent, and Germany’s fell 9.25 per cent, compared with Italy’s 9.7 per cent. Italy nevertheless performed better than several other economies listed: Spain, France, Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom. Thus the review distinguishes the correctly stated January figures from the unsupported claim of the leading international performance.
Penalty of Rs. 10,000 for not linking one’s Aadhaar number with their PAN card by 31 March 2021
Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING
The claim concerned whether missing the 31 March 2021 deadline to link PAN with Aadhaar would lead to a Rs. 10,000 penalty. The review distinguishes the penalty for failing to link the two numbers from a separate penalty provision that may have been confused with it. The review says the Finance Bill, 2021 introduced section 234H into the Income Tax Act, 1961, providing for a penalty of up to Rs. 1,000 for not linking PAN with Aadhaar. It contrasts this with section 272B, which provides for a Rs. 10,000 penalty for failure to comply with section 139A. The review suggests that this separate provision may have been misconstrued as applying to failure to link Aadhaar under section 139AA. Accordingly, the review concludes that the penalty for not linking by the deadline was capped at Rs. 1,000, not Rs. 10,000. It also notes that the deadline was subsequently extended: a government notification issued on 31 March 2021 moved it to 30 June 2021.

«La provincia di Brescia ha un Pil superiore ad almeno quattro Stati che siedono nel Consiglio europeo. Sarebbe la numero 25 dell’elenco dei Paesi europei se la provincia di Brescia fosse uno Stato a sé come Pil» (min.12:00)
Publisher’s rating: Vero
At Italia Viva’s national assembly on 20 March, Matteo Renzi said that Brescia province, if it were a state, would have a GDP greater than at least four states represented in the European Council and would rank 25th among European countries. The review compares Brescia with the 27 EU member states, the countries it identifies as represented in the Council, using 2018 figures. To estimate Brescia’s total, the review uses Istat data for 2018 value added per resident—€30,702—and multiplies it by the province’s population of 1,262,402 on 1 January 2018. It says this produces an estimated provincial GDP of about €38.76 billion. The review explains that value added is effectively equivalent to GDP for this comparison. Eurostat figures cited in the review show four EU countries below that estimate: Malta at €12.59 billion, Cyprus at €21.43 billion, Estonia at €25.94 billion and Latvia at €29.14 billion. Lithuania and Slovenia were slightly above Brescia, at €45.59 billion and €45.86 billion, respectively. Thus, the comparison supports the claim that Brescia’s GDP exceeded that of four EU states. The review flags a separate ranking error: among 27 EU states plus Brescia, a GDP greater than four countries’ would place Brescia 24th, not 25th. It therefore treats the GDP comparison as correct while distinguishing it from the incorrect rank arithmetic.
«Per i risparmiatori truffati delle banche è stanziato un miliardo e mezzo di euro. A settimana scorsa sa quanti soldi erano stati dati ai risparmiatori? 21 milioni»
Publisher’s rating: C'eri quasi
Matteo Salvini made the statement on 18 March 2021, during an appearance on Rai 1’s Porta a Porta. He said that savers affected by bank failures had received €21 million, despite €1.5 billion being set aside. The review identifies the fund as the Fondo indennizzo risparmiatori (Fir), established by the 2019 budget law with €525 million for each of 2019, 2020 and 2021. The review’s figures therefore concern this fund and investors affected by the failures of six banks between 2015 and 2017—not every person who might broadly be described as a bank customer who lost money. The review compares Salvini’s amount with data Consap published on 15 March 2021. It reports that, by that date, Consap had liquidated €45.5 million in reimbursements—more than twice the €21 million in Salvini’s statement—and describes this as about 3 per cent of the roughly €1.5 billion allocated. On the amounts and date examined, then, the €1.5 billion allocation was broadly accurate, but the reported payments were substantially higher than his figure. The comparison needs a qualification: eligibility was restricted by criteria, and the total fund allocation was not the same as the amount already paid out. The review says payment procedures began only in autumn 2020. It also reports that, among 114,000 applications received, 75,000 needed document supplementation. These details help explain why the amount paid by March 2021 was only a small share of the allocation, without changing the reported €45.5 million total.
