Polens Gasspeicher sind zwar fast voll, aber auch vergleichsweise klein - in Deutschland lagert trotz niedrigerem Füllstand derzeit mehr als vier Mal so viel Gas in den Speichern.

The claim was made by Agriculture Minister Oded Forer amid discussion of a proposed increase in prices for regulated bread. He argued both that most bread people buy is not price-controlled and that lower-income families buy more pita, which is not controlled. It relied on a Knesset Research and Information Center analysis of the latest available Central Bureau of Statistics household expenditure survey, for 2018. A limitation in that analysis matters: the survey’s “sliced bread” category includes both regulated and unregulated products. To avoid overstating regulated-bread spending, the review says the analysis treated the entire category as regulated—a deliberately broad assumption. Even on that basis, households in the bottom income quintile spent an average of 12.5 shekels per month on regulated bread, against about 110 shekels on all bread products. That puts regulated bread at 11% of their bread expenditure. Across all households, the corresponding share was 8.5%. The review also found that bottom-quintile households spent an average of 48.6 shekels per month on pita, almost four times their spending on regulated bread. Pita accounted for about 44% of their bread expenditure. Spending on pita fell as income quintiles rose, while spending on specialty breads increased. These figures support Forer’s central point about the limited share of regulated bread and the prominence of pita among lower-income households, while measuring expenditure rather than the amount of bread consumed. The review concludes that his statement was accurate.

Taken together, these were the review’s principal reasons for identifying the promotion as fake. As further comparison, the review says Deichmann’s official page had been created nearly twelve years earlier and included a complete imprint, while the giveaway page had no other substantive posts. The review assessed viral social-media posts alleging that the gas in a 12.5 kg Litro cylinder cost only Rs. 612.75 and that a cylinder could therefore be supplied for Rs. 2,300. It reports that the posts’ cost breakdown treated a shipping charge as though it were the purchase price of the LPG. The review says it checked the breakdown and asked Litro Gas Company for the actual cost components. Litro’s supplied figures put the LPG purchase price at USD 725 per metric ton. Using the exchange rate of LKR 369.71 per US dollar stated in the company’s breakdown, the review calculated the gas in one 12.5 kg cylinder at Rs. 3,350. It further reports shipping charges and taxes of USD 129 per metric ton, equivalent to Rs. 596 per cylinder, plus Rs. 590 for operational expenses and Rs. 373 for delivery. The four components add up to Rs. 4,910. The review’s key correction is that USD 129 was the shipping-and-tax charge per metric ton, not the LPG purchase cost. It reports that Litro’s purchase cost plus shipping charges and taxes came to Rs. 3,946 per 12.5 kg cylinder, and that the company’s purchase-price figure was close to international LPG prices. On the figures examined, the Rs. 612.75 gas-cost claim and the Rs. 2,300 proposed cylinder price were not supported.

APJ Abdul Kalam’s statements praising Network Marketing

The claim concerns an alleged endorsement by former Indian President APJ Abdul Kalam of Network Marketing. The review identifies a widely shared quote saying it was the “final growing business of 21st century” and that every young person should join, as well as a video clip circulated to support the attribution. It reports that Kalam did not make such a statement. The review describes two strands of investigation. Its search for news reports found none confirming that Kalam had made the quoted statement. It also examined an extended version of the video, which showed Kalam answering a student’s question about assessing the last four years of his presidency. Kalam spoke of a marketing process associated with his mission for India to become a developed nation before 2021; according to the review, the student had not asked about Network Marketing. The review places that exchange in a conversation with students on 15 August 2006. The review further reports that Srijan Pal Singh, identified as Kalam’s former OSD and co-author, confirmed that Kalam had not made the statement. Taken together, the review’s account indicates that the clip’s reference to “marketing” was presented as an endorsement of Network Marketing even though its described context concerned Kalam’s 2021 mission. The review concludes that the attribution was false.
