A widely circulated report attributed to Reuters claims that the United States has moved to checkmate dollar stockpile in Africa and restrict acceptance of US Dollars below 2021.
Publisher’s rating: False
The claim concerned a report circulating on social media, attributed to Reuters, that the US would take measures against dollar stockpiles in Africa and restrict acceptance of US dollars “below 2021.” The review says the alleged report named January 31, 2023 as the date the restriction would begin. These details identify what was checked; the excerpt does not provide the purported Reuters article itself or establish who first created or circulated it. [S1]
RBI declared that Google Pay is not an authorised payment system
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The claim concerns a social-media post asserting that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had declared Google Pay unauthorised, so users could not claim money if a payment went wrong. The review distinguishes the legal status of a payment-system operator from Google Pay’s role in UPI. It reports that RBI told the Delhi High Court in June 2020 that Google Pay was a Third Party App Provider and did not operate a payment system; the review says this was cited as the reason Google Pay was not on the list of authorised payment operators. To check the claim, the publisher says it searched for relevant reporting and consulted the NPCI list of authorised Third Party App Providers. It found Google Pay on that list. The review also cites a June 2020 NPCI clarification stating that NPCI, authorised by RBI as UPI’s Payment System Operator, authorises UPI participants, and that Google Pay is a TPAP working through banking partners under NPCI’s UPI framework. The post therefore conflates not being an authorised payment-system operator with not being an authorised UPI app provider. The review also reports that NPCI said transactions made using authorised TPAPs are covered by applicable NPCI/RBI redressal processes. On the evidence presented, RBI’s reported description of Google Pay as a third-party provider does not support the post’s assertion that users cannot seek redress; the review rates the claim false.

Cadbury’s website mentions that the ingredients used in their products sold in India are derived from beef
Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING
The claim concerned a screenshot said to show that ingredients in Cadbury products sold in India were derived from beef. FACTLY says the screenshot referred to gelatine and that the webpage was not Cadbury India’s: “The screenshot shows an old version of the Cadbury Australia’s website.” It also reports that Cadbury India’s website did not contain the information shown in the viral image. FACTLY describes checking the website domain and comparing the screenshot’s wording with Cadbury Australia’s current and archived webpages. The domain in the screenshot was Australian, not Indian. The review says the current Australian site uses “Australian Products” where the older viral image showed “Products,” and that an archived page from 17 July 2022 still used the shorter wording. It reports that since October 2021 the site had used “Australian Products” to avoid confusion. The review also cites Cadbury Dairy Milk’s clarification on 18 July 2021: the screenshot was not about Mondelez products manufactured in India, and products manufactured and sold there were described as “100% vegetarian.” It adds that a green dot on the packaging indicates vegetarian status under FSSAI regulations. These points identify the screenshot’s Australian context and distinguish it from the products covered by the claim.
The review investigated a social-media post claiming Edeka was giving away gift boxes and €500 to mark its 115th birthday. It compared the page promoting the offer with Edeka’s official Facebook presence and examined the giveaway page’s details. The account was called “Edeka Fans,” had 145 followers, and showed only two posts; the review reports that Edeka’s official page had more than 1.2 million followers. The page’s transparency information also showed that it had had a different name until 26 October 2022, and the review noted that it lacked an imprint. The review also used reverse image search to investigate pictures in the post. It traced them to older reports about Edeka activities, rather than to evidence of the advertised birthday giveaway. Together, the account details and image origins indicate that the post was not an offer published by Edeka’s official Facebook page. The review cautions that dubious giveaway offers may seek users’ email addresses or other personal information.
