Job vacancies on the website of a government organisation named ‘Gramin Rojgar Kalyan Sansthan’
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The claim concerned job vacancies advertised on grks.org and the assertion that its operator, “Gramin Rojgar Kalyan Sansthan,” was a government organisation. FACTLY’s review reports that a search of the NGO Darpan website identified the organisation as a Bihar-based non-governmental organisation registered in 2017—not a government organisation. The review says it searched the National Career Service, Employment News and other credible media for information about the recruitment, but found none. It also reports that the organisation had posted thousands of vacancies for positions across India since 2017. The article describes complaints from applicants who said they had lost money and alleged that fees were collected without examinations being conducted. These are reported complaints, not findings of an official investigation established in the excerpt. For additional context, the review cites a Ministry of Rural Development press release dated 16 June 2022. That release concerned a different organisation, Gramin Udhyamita Sansthan, and warned about claims of government authorisation and government website domains. FACTLY applied the domain guidance as context; the excerpt does not say that the Ministry issued a statement about Gramin Rojgar Kalyan Sansthan. The review’s conclusion rests principally on its reported identification of Gramin Rojgar Kalyan Sansthan as an NGO, and it labels the claim FALSE.
Walmart anunció que abrirá tienda en Cuba y la agencia EFE lo informó.
Publisher’s rating: Falso
The claim concerned a specific rumor: that Walmart and other U.S. and international retail chains would begin operating in Havana on January 1, 2023, and that EFE had announced the openings. The review reports that the rumor circulated on social media and was attributed to a supposed EFE news item. It also describes a December 1, 2022, post by Todo Cuba Online, which said it could not corroborate the information even as it detailed the alleged store openings. The review’s conclusion is that neither the Walmart opening nor the supposed EFE announcement was genuine. (S1: “mensajes en redes sociales se lee: ‘Apertura de nuevas cadenas de tiendas en La Habana a partir de (sic) 1 de enero de 2023!!’”; “la desinformación fue divulgada por Todo Cuba Online en su web el 1 de diciembre de 2022”) The review says elDetector contacted Walmart through its media portal and received a response from company spokesperson Amy Sarosiek: Walmart “no ha anunciado ningún plan para abrir una tienda en Cuba”. It also reports contacting EFE. Ana Mengotti, head of the news services office at EFE’s Miami delegation, called the claim fake news and directed the outlet to EFE Verifica. That evidence addresses both parts of the claim: whether Walmart announced a Cuban store and whether EFE published the purported announcement. The review quotes EFE Verifica as saying it had no matching item in its EFE Data database and found no announcement in the companies’ official communications. It further reports that no EFE-subscribing media outlets shared the supposed story, which EFE treated as evidence of impersonation. Separately, elDetector says it searched Google for claims about Walmart and other named chains opening in Cuba and found no confirming news reports. These searches support the review’s conclusion, while the direct responses from Walmart and EFE provide the more specific evidence about the alleged announcement.

Nataraj manufacturing company is offering pen packing jobs with a salary of Rs. 30,000
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The claim concerns supposed work-from-home pencil or pen packing jobs offered in Nataraj’s name, with a monthly salary of Rs. 30,000. FACTLY reports that it examined social-media posts and a purported Nataraj Pencils website offering similar work. It says Nataraj Pencils addressed these job posts directly in a video, describing them as fake and warning people against fraudulent posts or websites using the company’s name. [S1: “A post is being circulated on social media claiming that the Nataraj manufacturing company is offering pencil or pen packing jobs for work from home, with a salary of Rs. 30,000 per month.”; “Nataraj Pencils through the video confirmed these posts as fake and cautioned people not to fall prey to such fraudulent posts or websites offering pencil packing jobs in the name of their company.”] The central explanation reported by FACTLY is that packing at the company is automated. The review says the company emphasized that its pencil packaging process is done by machines, with no human involvement in that process. That evidence directly contradicts the advertised offer of people doing pencil-packing work for Nataraj from home. [S1: “Confirming these posts as fraud, Nataraj Pencils emphasised that the pencil packaging process in the company is completely automated with the help of machines and said there is no human interference in the packaging process of their products.”] FACTLY also reports that Nataraj directed job seekers to the official recruitment information of Hindustan Pencils Private Limited, the manufacturer of Nataraj and Apsara pencils. The review quotes a company statement saying it had not authorized anyone to collect deposits for such work and that the advertisements were fake. Taken together, the company’s direct denial, its account of automated packaging, and its warning about unauthorized solicitations address the specific offer described in the claim. [S1: “Further, Nataraj Pencils said that all their recruitment information will be provided on the website of Hindustan Pencils Private Limited, the manufacturing company of Nataraj and Apsara pencils.”; “Hindustan Pencils Private Limited is not giving any such pencil packing job work from home and we have not even authorized any person to collect any payment/cash deposit from any individual as a pre-formality for giving such packing work from home.”]

The Price Of A Standard Eraser Used By Schoolchildren Risen To Rs.250!!
Publisher’s rating: Misleading
Factcrescendo examined a viral Sri Lankan social-media post that showed an eraser priced at Rs.250 and implied that this was the current price of an average schoolchildren’s eraser. The review places the post against rising stationery costs, but distinguishes the broad price increases from the specific claim about a standard eraser: it says the post’s implication was exaggerated because standard erasers remained available for much less. To check prices, the team says it looked at eraser listings from the M.D. Gunasena and Sarasavi bookstores, contacted bookstores directly, and spoke to the Sri Lankan representative for Staedler, the German brand depicted in the viral posts. The review reports that most standard erasers were priced below Rs.50. It also notes that some decorative or custom erasers cost more, so the low prices did not apply to every kind of eraser. The brand detail helps explain why the image did not establish the price of an ordinary school eraser. According to the review, Staedler is used by some schoolchildren but is more popular with professional artists and architects; its representative gave a starting price of Rs.73 for the cheapest German-made eraser and said the model shown could be bought locally for around Rs.207 upwards. Thus, a price near Rs.250 could describe a particular branded product, but the price checks reported do not support treating it as the average price of a standard schoolchildren’s eraser.
මකනයක මිල රු.250 දක්වා ඉහළ ගිය සිදුවීමේ ඇත්ත කතාව!
Publisher’s rating: Explainer
The review examined a social-media image that led people to believe an ordinary school eraser had risen in price to Rs. 250. It says the image showed a Staedtler eraser, rather than establishing that this was the price of a typical school eraser. The investigation focused on checking prices and identifying the product in the image. To compare ordinary erasers with the item shown, the reviewers checked prices at two major Sri Lankan bookshops, M.D. Gunasena and Sarasavi, and said they also confirmed prices with some bookshops. Their reported finding was that ordinary erasers cost less than Rs. 50. The article separately notes that decorative erasers, including designs appealing to young children, can cost more. The review identified the pictured item as a German-made Staedtler eraser and says the Sri Lankan distributor described the brand’s products as available in different types for different purposes, including use by professional artists and architects. According to the article, the pictured eraser was priced from Rs. 207, while the least expensive German-made Staedtler eraser sold in Sri Lanka was Rs. 73. Thus, the post’s Rs. 250 implication did not represent the ordinary erasers the reviewers checked; the account also cautions that school-supply prices had generally risen amid inflation.
