Publisher’s rating:
The claim was made by opposition lawmaker Merav Cohen in a Channel 12 interview about Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s video presenting his government’s achievements. Cohen said that growth had been 8% under the previous government and had “crashed” to 3%, attributing the change to the judicial overhaul. The investigation compared annual growth figures and forecasts, and consulted economists about the recovery from COVID-19 and how quickly a government’s policies can be linked to growth. The article also notes that Cohen declined to comment. The figures do not describe a fall from 8% growth in the previous government’s term: growth was 8.6% in 2021 and 6.5% in 2022. The article says the 2021 figure partly coincided with a post-pandemic rebound, and that economists attributed the unusually high growth to recovery from COVID-19. It also cautions that the 2021 figure spans a change of government: the 36th government was sworn in on June 13, 2021. The 3% figure was a forecast for 2023, not a reported full-year result in the article. The investigation says that the Finance Ministry had forecast 3% growth in December 2022, before the new government was formed and before the judicial-overhaul announcement. It further reports economists’ view that short-term growth figures cannot establish how much a particular government caused, while warning that policy-related harm could emerge over a longer period. Thus, the figures support a sharp contrast between the 2021 rate and the 2023 forecast, but do not establish either the asserted 8%-to-3% comparison for the previous government or the claim that the overhaul caused that change.

Publisher’s rating: Falso
The claim concerned a Facebook video published on July 28, 2023, which said that the Federal Reserve had just confirmed a U.S. recession by the end of that year. The review reports that the video’s accompanying text said “Recesión confirmada en EEUU” and that its speaker made the same prediction in the opening seconds. The review’s conclusion is that the Fed had not announced such a recession. The central evidence is Jerome Powell’s July 26 press conference. According to the review, Powell said that, given the economy’s recent resilience, he no longer expected a recession. This directly contradicts the video’s portrayal of the Fed as having just confirmed one. The review also notes that the Fed’s staff had forecast a mild recession in March 2023, after the Silicon Valley Bank collapse; that earlier forecast is not evidence of a July announcement and is important context for how the claim could mislead. The review says its searches in Google, Yandex, and Bing found no information supporting the claim that the Fed had confirmed a recession after Powell’s late-July statement. It also reports that a 2.4% GDP growth figure for the second quarter was reported by the Commerce Department, and that JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America removed their recession forecasts. These details provide further context, though they do not themselves establish what Powell said. The review’s stated decisive evidence is Powell’s July 26 remarks.
The APA review investigated Facebook videos that appeared to show well-known Austrian figures promoting investment schemes. It found that the clips were fabricated from existing footage: the people shown had not made the investment claims attributed to them, and their original videos concerned other subjects. The review also noted that the voices sounded similar in tone to those of the people shown but differed in speaking style, which it described as a warning sign of manipulation. For one video, the review identified footage of ORF presenter Susanne Schnabl, OMV chief executive Alfred Stern and entrepreneur René Benko. Schnabl’s segment came from an ORF “Report” broadcast on 25 April 2023, in which she interviewed Burgenland governor Hans Peter Doskozil—not about investments. Stern’s underlying clip was an interview with ÖBAG about the oil company’s sustainability; OMV said he had not made the statements heard in the promotional video and that the company had not authorized its use. Benko’s footage came from a Signa Trendtalk in October 2018 and originally concerned the real-estate situation. The review also traced other reused footage: Heinz-Christian Strache’s clip came from a May 2019 video commenting on the Ibiza video, while a segment featuring ORF presenter Claudia Reiterer was taken from an “Im Zentrum” introduction. In the latter, the review said, Elon Musk’s image had been added to the background after filming. These examples show how the investment pitches were assembled from unrelated original clips rather than authentic endorsements.

Photo of a letter issued by NHAI announcing toll tax exemptions to ex-servicemen and their families
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The claim concerns a photo of a purported NHAI circular dated 17 November 2006, said to exempt defence personnel, ex-servicemen and their families from toll tax when they showed identification. The review examined both whether ex-servicemen were entitled to an exemption and whether the circulated document was genuinely issued by NHAI. It reports that MoRTH clarified in 2014 that the statutory exemption applied only to serving armed personnel, not ex-servicemen. The review also describes a separate check of the document’s provenance. It says a 2008 report by The Tribune reported that NHAI had issued a clarification identifying the letter, supposedly from its Delhi office, as fake. The two strands of evidence address different parts of the claim: the MoRTH clarification concerns who could qualify for an exemption, while the reported NHAI clarification concerns whether the purported letter was authentic. The review further reports that NHAI, responding under RTI to queries from The Indian Express, reiterated that retired defence service personnel were not entitled to the exemption. It also quotes MoRTH’s qualification that a personal vehicle was not exempt merely because it accompanied an official: the vehicle had to be used for official purpose and duty, and the specified pass had to be produced. Taken together, the review’s account gives no support for the purported blanket exemption in the circulated letter.
