Rs. 10,000 flood relief given recently to the flood victims in Hyderabad by the State Government is actually financed from the Rs. 550 crores flood aid released by the Central Government

Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING

The claim concerns Rs. 10,000 in relief given to Hyderabad flood victims by the Telangana state government. It asserted that the money came from Rs. 550 crores in flood aid released by the Central Government. FACTLY examined the post’s claim in the setting of the 2020 Hyderabad floods and distinguished routine statutory transfers to the state from additional disaster assistance specifically for those floods. The review explains that the Centre contributes to state disaster-response funds and is obliged to release its share irrespective of whether a disaster has occurred. It reports that Telangana received the Centre’s second instalment of this funding, describing it as Rs. 449 crores in its account of the instalment and concluding summary. The review’s central distinction is that receipt of this regular fund does not establish that the Centre provided additional assistance for the Hyderabad floods or that the state’s Rs. 10,000 relief payments were financed from such additional aid. The review also reports that a five-member central team visited Hyderabad on 22 October 2020 to assess flood losses. Telangana projected losses of Rs. 9,400 crores, including Rs. 567 crores in GHMC. According to the review, the Centre would decide on additional assistance after considering the team’s report; as of the review, no additional funds had been released. On that evidence, the review labels the post’s claim misleading: it conflated a statutory transfer with additional flood assistance, and the cited Rs. 550 crores was not substantiated as additional aid for the Hyderabad floods.

The claim concerns a photograph of a truck stuck during a failed turning manoeuvre, with a political slogan allegedly added to its blue trailer. The review identifies the incident as involving a 40-tonne truck in Herborn, in the Lahn-Dill district, on 13 January 2020. It reports that the driver became stuck and had to be freed by a towing company. To assess what appeared on the trailer, the review compares photographs of the same scene from different perspectives and describes the provenance of the available images. A police press release included a photograph in which the truck had no visible lettering. The Lahn-Dill police directorate told dpa that the police had removed company logos and lettering from that image to prevent identification of the person responsible. That altered police image therefore does not establish that the truck originally had a blank trailer. The review says another online article used a different photograph of the scene: in that image, the lettering was changed rather than removed. It also points to unaltered photographs shared on social media, taken from multiple perspectives, which show the trailer’s original inscription as the name of a Romanian transport company. This evidence distinguishes the misleading slogan from the actual lettering and explains why images of the same incident can look different.

Nine BSF jawans died in a bus accident at Darbhanga, Bihar

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The post claimed that nine BSF jawans died when a bus overturned at Darbhanga, Bihar, while taking them to election duty. The review says a bus carrying BSF jawans on election duty did overturn there, but reports that no jawan died. Instead, ten people—including nine jawans—were injured. The reported accident was real; the claim about nine deaths misstated its outcome. Evidence: “A bus carrying BSF Jawans on election duty indeed overturned at Darbhanga in Bihar. But, no BSF jawan died in this accident. Ten persons, including nine BSF jawans, got injured in this accident.” The review describes checking the image by reverse image search and finding a similar photo in a Lokaarpan article. It also cites reporting by Dainik Bhaskar on the injuries and by Punjab Kesari on the same incident. This supports the distinction between the accident and the false death toll. Evidence: “On reverse image search of the photo shared in the post, a similar photo is found in an article published by Lokaarpan news website on ‘05 November 2020’.”

Claim: This video is not related with Namakkal Medical College construction collapse incident / நாமக்கல் மருத்துவக் கல்லூரி கட்டிடம் இடிந்து விழும் வீடியோ

Publisher’s rating: False

The claim concerns a video circulated as showing the Namakkal Medical College building collapsing during construction. Fact Crescendo says the college’s frontage collapsed around 2:30 a.m. on October 30, 2020, with no injuries reported. The reviewed video, however, showed a collapse in daylight while construction was underway. The difference in timing and scene led the review to conclude that the clip did not depict the Namakkal incident. [S1]

Video of RJD's Tejashwi Yadav distributing money to flood-hit people

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The review examines a viral video presented as showing Tejashwi Yadav distributing money and providing jobs in exchange for votes during the Bihar election period. It reports that BJP social media head Punjab Varun Puri shared the video with the caption “Tejashwi Yadav distributing jobs in Bihar.” The investigation says the clip instead showed Yadav providing aid to people affected by flooding. To check the video’s context, NewsMeter reports conducting a reverse image search. That search led to a Times of India report published in July 2020, which described Yadav visiting flood-affected areas and donating money to affected people. The review also cites a Navbharat Times report containing a clip from the same event; its account places Yadav in East Champaran, distributing money to flood victims. These reported matches connect the footage to flood relief, rather than to a vote-for-money or jobs exchange. The review further says it found the same video on Yadav’s Facebook page, uploaded on 31 July 2020. The caption described him meeting flood victims in Chakia, in the Pipra Assembly constituency, and sharing their grief. Taken together, the review’s cited reporting and the earlier social-media post identify the footage as showing flood-relief activity, not the election-related transaction alleged in the viral claim.
