Oil tanker explosion on Gachibowli flyover, Hyderabad

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerned a social-media video said to show an oil tanker exploding on Gachibowli flyover in Hyderabad. FACTLY examined the video and the location attached to it, reporting that the fire shown was a truck catching fire on Warje bridge in Pune, not an incident in Hyderabad. The review says Cyberabad Traffic Police confirmed the location and stated that no such incident had occurred in Hyderabad. To trace the video, the investigators used reverse image search on screenshots, which returned YouTube videos with similar visuals. They noted that those videos were uploaded in the first week of December 2020, and that one description identified a “TRUCK BLAST” at Warje flyover on the Pune-Bangalore highway. A Google search then led them to a local news report about the incident on Warje bridge. The review further reports that a Cyberabad Traffic Police tweet confirmed the Pune location. Together, these findings show that the video was misidentified as footage from Gachibowli; the excerpt identifies the depicted vehicle as a truck, rather than substantiating an oil tanker explosion in Hyderabad.
