Borivali Fireworks display

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerns a video circulated as a 1-minute, 45-second fireworks display in Borivali, West Mumbai. The accompanying post called it a “first of its kind” spherical pyrotechnics show. FACTLY’s review concluded that the footage did not depict a real fireworks event, but a digitally simulated display.

Video of Jai Ho song choreographed by the Chinese.

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerned a circulating video said to show Chinese performers dancing to “Jai Ho,” the song from Slumdog Millionaire. FACTLY reports that the footage was instead associated with the Spring Festival Gala 2019. Its review says the performers were doing martial arts to different music, not dancing to “Jai Ho”; the circulating version had been edited to make it appear otherwise. To investigate, FACTLY says it ran screenshots from the posted video through Google Reverse Image Search and found videos with similar visuals. It then examined a CGTN YouTube upload, which identified the footage as related to the Spring Festival Gala 2019. The review also reports that the upload’s description attributed the performance to Henan Shaolin Tagou Martial Arts School and named it “The Soul of Shaolin.” The distinction is between the genuine performance and the altered clip: the matching visuals trace to a martial-arts performance, while the review says the original uses other music. Thus, the footage does not establish that the performers danced to “Jai Ho”; the song was added in an edit.

Burj Khalifa lighted up with Syed Ahmed Khan’s photo

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerned an image said to show the UAE government lighting up the Burj Khalifa with Syed Ahmed Khan’s picture as a tribute. The review identifies Khan as the founder of Aligarh Muslim University and notes that his birth anniversary is celebrated on October 17. It concludes that the circulated image was altered, rather than a genuine display on the tower. The review describes two checks. A reverse image search found a similar image without Khan’s picture on the Burj Khalifa, providing a comparison for the circulated version. The reviewer also checked the Burj Khalifa’s official Twitter account: although the account usually posts when the tower is lit for a person or event, the review says it found no tweet about a display featuring Khan. On that basis, the review concludes the image was photoshopped.
