Image of Gangster Vikas Dubey dancing with Sambit Patra
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The claim concerns a photo circulated as showing gangster Vikas Dubey dancing with BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra. FACTLY reports that the image was altered: the original showed Dubey dancing with another person, whose face was replaced with Patra’s. The review says Dubey had attended a wedding reception for his follower Amar Dubey, where he danced with friends and followers, 21 days before his encounter. [S1] The claim therefore misrepresented who appeared beside Dubey in the original image. To investigate, FACTLY says it conducted a reverse image search and found the original photo in an article published by the Hindi newspaper website Amar Ujala. It compared that image with the viral version and reports that the two showed the same scene, but with the face of the person dancing alongside Dubey changed to Sambit Patra’s. The review also notes that Asr24news published an article showing the original photo. These findings address the image itself, rather than establishing that Patra attended the wedding. [S1]
Jennifer García Quintana lleva desaparecida 6 días
Publisher’s rating: Falso
The claim concerns a circulated notice saying that 13-year-old Jennifer García Quintana had been missing for six days. Newtral reports that the notice also identified her as the daughter of a university professor and asked people to share it. The investigation concludes that the notice was false: Jennifer was not missing, the photograph was not of her, and the claimed family connection was untrue. The article describes checking the name online and finding reports from 2011 that had already identified the story as false. It cites reporting that, according to sources at Spain’s National Police, neither Jennifer García nor her supposed father José Luis existed. It also recounts a 2015 exchange in which the Civil Guard called the story a hoax and said the photograph had been circulating for four years, adding that the minor did not exist. The notice was not evidence of a new disappearance. Newtral says the story had gone viral repeatedly over the years and reports that the first version began circulating online in Spain on December 30, 2010; it also notes that Mexican fact-checking outlet Animal Político debunked the claim in 2011.

Video of a Hindu boy stabbed and killed by Muslims in Andhra Pradesh
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The post presented a video as showing a Hindu boy killed by Muslims in Andhra Pradesh. FACTLY’s review says the video instead depicts an incident in Hyderabad, Telangana, and identifies the boy as Mohammed Imran Khan. It reports that police suspected a family dispute, not a communal motive, and says the accused were Imran’s half-brothers and their associates. To investigate, the review describes running screenshots of the video through Google Reverse Image Search. That search surfaced a similar video whose description identified Hyderabad and the boy as Imran Khan; searches using those details returned other videos about the incident. The review also refers to news articles and to statements from Imran’s brother and police. It concludes that the video was misrepresented both as to the location and the victim’s religion, and that the evidence described did not support a communal explanation.
BJP leader Vikas Dubey killed 8 U.P police personnel in an encounter at Kanpur.
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The claim misidentified a BJP leader named Vikas Dubey as the criminal accused of killing eight Uttar Pradesh police personnel in Kanpur. FACTLY reports that the encounter took place on 2 July 2020, but says the accused was a different man who shared the BJP leader’s name. The review states that the criminal had previously joined the Bahujan Samaj Party and was a history-sheeter facing 60 criminal cases. (S1: “A gangster with the same name Vikas Dubey, is the one who is accused of killing 8 policemen in Kanpur, not the BJP Leader Vikas Dubey.”; “The accused Vikas Dubey joined Bahujan Samaj party (BSP) earlier. He is a history-sheeter facing 60 criminal cases .”) The review describes the event as a raid in Chaubepur village, Kanpur, in search of the criminal Vikas Dubey. It says a team of 15 to 16 police personnel was ambushed by men working under him, and eight officers died, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police and three Sub-Inspectors. The review therefore does not dispute that eight personnel were killed; it corrects which Vikas Dubey was accused. (S1: “On 02 July 2020, a team of 15 to 16 police personnel had gone to raid an area in search of criminal Vikas Dubey in Chaubepur village in Kanpur.”; “As the police team reached the spot, they were ambushed by Dubey’s men who were well prepared with arms. A total of 8 police personnel including a Deputy Superintendent of Police, 3 Sub-Inspectors died in that encounter.”) FACTLY says it searched for information about the 2 July encounter and found an article on Jagran that showed the accused criminal’s photograph. It also reports that the BJP leader clarified, in a video, that he was not the person involved after his photograph circulated online with the accusation. This evidence supports the review’s central distinction: the post used the BJP leader’s image to portray him as a different person with the same name. (S1: “When we searched for relevant information related to the encounter that took place on 02 July in Kanpur, we found a article related to that incident in Jagran website.”; “BJP leader Vikas Dubey clarified the same through a video when his photo went viral on social media alleging him to be the one accused of killing 8 police personnel in the Kanpur encounter.”)
