A Facebook post claimed that the police search for a fugitive in the Black Forest was a cover for a raid on a nearby property, and paired that claim with a building said to belong to a Rothschild. The review identifies the post as dated July 15, 2020, and distinguishes the two events: on July 12, a 31-year-old man from Oppenau took four officers’ service weapons during a check at a hut he was using illegally; after several days on the run, he was arrested on July 17. The post supplied no sources for its claim that the police were searching for people in the pictured building.

The review examines a social-media collage that identifies a badly injured woman as Aracely Henriquez and alleges that George Floyd abducted and beat her while she was pregnant, threatening her unborn child. It also depicts a white man identified as “Tim” and says officers joked after killing him. The review distinguishes the people and events shown: the woman is Andrea Sicignano, while the man is Anthony “Tony” Timpa, who died after officers restrained him. The review traces Sicignano’s image to two photos she posted on Facebook on December 19, 2018. In that post, she described being brutally beaten and raped in Madrid. Sicignano later warned that her image was circulating online alongside George Floyd’s name and being used to suggest that he deserved to die. The review reports that court documents describe a separate August 9, 2007 robbery involving Floyd and Henriquez: Floyd and five others carried it out, and Floyd threatened Henriquez with a gun. According to those documents, another participant—not Floyd—beat her. The documents do not mention an abduction, pregnancy, or a threat to kill an unborn child. The review identifies Timpa as the man in the collage and reports that he died in Dallas on August 10, 2016, after officers held him face down. It says body-camera footage showed officers joking when he stopped moving and laughing shortly after one said he hoped he had not killed him; officers were told he was dead in the ambulance. The review also reports that an autopsy attributed his death to sudden cardiac death associated with cocaine’s toxic effects and the physiological stress of the arrest, with other contributing factors noted. Thus, the collage combines distinct events and people, while its account of officers joking after Timpa became unresponsive is supported by the footage described in the review.

The Facebook post claimed that the 31-year-old man sought in the Black Forest had disarmed two more police officers while fleeing and had also stolen a patrol car. It paired those allegations with a report-style image and a photograph police had used in their search. The review identifies the man as having robbed four officers of their service weapons during a check at a hut he was using illegally in Oppenau on 12 July 2020. The review reports that the Offenburg police headquarters had not reported any further disarmings as of 17 July. It traces the Facebook post’s account to an article on a site where users could create joke articles. The site’s own explanation said its jokes were invented and should not be taken seriously or treated as reliable information. The key omitted context was a disclaimer that appeared above the false report on the joke site but was missing from the Facebook share image: the site said the reader had been fooled by a joke. The review also reports that the man was arrested on 17 July. Thus, the image’s use of a real search photograph did not establish that the additional incidents described in the post had happened.

Publisher’s rating: De stelling is fout.
The Facebook post claimed that Volkert van der Graaf, the man convicted of murdering Pim Fortuyn, had bought the house shown in its photograph in Borculo, with the purchase allegedly paid for with taxpayers’ money. The review’s investigation identifies the pictured property as a house in Gelselaar, not Borculo: the article says the two places are 7.5 kilometres apart and that the image was apparently taken from Funda, a Dutch property-sale website. The review also reports checking the property’s sale with SCND Vastgoed, the agency that offered it. Its founder and owner, Cindy Roelofs, told DPA by telephone that it was “certainly not the case” that Van der Graaf bought the house, calling that idea a “strange misconception.” Roelofs said the property had been sold by a woman to a young couple who did not want publicity. This directly contradicts the post’s claim that Van der Graaf was the buyer; the excerpt provides no evidence supporting its allegation about taxpayer funding.
Union Law Department has amended Section 41A of CrPC and cancelled the police station bail in order to check corruption in the police department
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The claim was that the Union Law Department had changed Section 41A of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and ended police-station bail to curb corruption. The review examined whether the government had recently changed Section 41A and whether station bail had been abolished. It says the claim arose again through a social-media post, after similar claims circulated in connection with a 2015 repealing law. The central distinction in the review is between repealing an amending law and undoing the changes that law had already made to the main statute. It explains that the 2008 CrPC amendment introduced Section 41A, and that the 2010 amendment changed the provision’s wording from “may” to “shall.” Although the 2015 Repealing and Amendment (Second) Act repealed the 2008 and 2010 amendment acts, the review says that did not, by itself, remove their amendments from the CrPC. On that basis, the review concludes that Section 41A remained in force and that the Law Ministry had not made a recent change abolishing station bail. It also distinguishes the rules governing a police notice to appear from the separate question of arrest: the provision was introduced as “Notice of appearance before police officer,” and the review describes later court directions concerning when police should make arrests. Those discussions do not establish that station bail was cancelled.
