Visuals of two murders, presented as occurrences of ‘love jihad,’ that happened in Delhi recently
Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING
The post presented two murder videos as “love jihad” incidents that had both recently occurred in Delhi. FACTLY’s review found that the clips show two separate killings, and that the Delhi location and communal framing do not apply to the first clip. The review’s conclusion was that the combined claim was misleading, not that both videos were unrelated to Delhi: it identified the second clip as a Delhi murder. To check the first clip, the review says it searched relevant keywords and found a News 18 Gujarati bulletin published on 22 May 2023. That report identified the footage as a murder in Gujarat’s Surat district on 18 May. FACTLY then says it consulted Indian Express reporting and an FIR. Those accounts describe an argument about sleeping on the terrace, followed by a father attacking his wife and stabbing his daughter, who died. The review says this incident was not related to communal or religious conflict. The second clip, by contrast, depicts the murder of 16-year-old Sakshi in Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy area on 28 May 2023. The review identifies her boyfriend, Sahil, as the attacker and says he was apprehended by police, with an investigation underway. Thus, the review distinguishes the two videos by matching them to different incidents: one in Surat involving a father and daughter, and one in Delhi involving a boyfriend and girlfriend. The post’s presentation of both as recent Delhi “love jihad” occurrences misrepresents the first clip’s location and circumstances.

Saliya Peiris is the lawyer appearing for Natasha Edirisooriya !!
Publisher’s rating: False
The claim was that President’s Counsel Saliya Peiris was the lawyer appearing for stand-up comedian Natasha Edirisooriya after her arrest. The review says reports and social-media posts circulated this claim, including reports that Peiris appeared for her at the Fort Magistrate’s Court. It identifies the arrest as occurring on 28 May, when the Criminal Investigation Department arrested Edirisooriya at the airport as she was trying to leave the country. To check who represented her, the investigation says it first contacted Peiris. He told the fact-checkers that he had not been retained for the case and had not appeared before the Fort Magistrate on 28 May. The review also reports that he posted a clarification on his official Facebook page and asked media outlets that had carried the inaccurate reports to correct them. The investigation describes two further checks: it contacted court media reporters, who identified the lawyers representing Edirisooriya as a group led by senior lawyer Asthika Devendra; and it found a correction notice from the Sinhala newspaper Dinamina attributing the representation to Devendra, not Peiris. On the evidence presented, the claim that Peiris appeared for Edirisooriya was false; the review identifies Devendra’s group as her representatives.
නතාෂා එදිරිසූරිය වෙනුවෙන් පෙනී සිටි නීතිඥයා සාලිය පීරිස් නොවේ!
Publisher’s rating: False
The claim is that Saliya Peiris was not the lawyer representing Natasha Edrisooriya in court. The review identifies the case as involving comedian Natasha Edrisooriya, who had been arrested over remarks about Buddhism, and says that reports and social-media posts had incorrectly named Peiris as her lawyer. It also notes that some news outlets had reported that he appeared for her at the Fort Magistrate’s Court on the 28th. The review reports that Peiris denied representing her and denied appearing there: “නීතිඥ සාලිය පීරිස් සඳහන් කළේ, තමන් නතාෂා එදිරිසූරිය සම්බන්ධයෙන් පෙනී සිටින නීතිඥවරයා නොවන බවත්, ඇතැම් මාධ්ය වාර්තා වල පෙන්වා දුන් පරිදි තමන්, පසුගිය 28 වන දා කොටුව මහේස්ත්රාත්වරයා හමුවේ පෙනී නොසිටි බවත්, එය අසත්ය තොරතුරක් බවයි.” The publisher describes two additional checks: it says it asked several court media reporters, who identified Asthika Devendra and others as the lawyers representing Natasha; and it says the newspaper Dinamina corrected its earlier report to name Devendra. These checks support the distinction between the lawyer actually appearing for Natasha and the inaccurate reports naming Peiris: “අධිකරණ මාධ්ය වාර්තාකරුවන් කිහිපදෙනෙකුගෙන් ද, විමසා සිටි අතර ඔවුන් තහවුරු කළේ ද, නතාෂා වෙනුවෙන් පෙනී සිටින නීතිඥවරයා වන්නේ, සාලිය පිරිස් නොව, නීතිඥ අස්තික දේවේන්ද්ර මහතා ඇතුළු පිරිසක් බවයි.” The review’s conclusion is that Peiris was not representing Natasha and that the case’s lawyers included Asthika Devendra. Its account therefore directly addresses the claim, rather than relying only on the fact that Peiris’s name had appeared in earlier coverage: “අපගේ විමර්ශනයෙන් පෙන්වා දෙන්නේ, මේ වන විට බන්ධනාගාර ගත කර සිටින ප්රහසන ශිල්පිනී නතාෂා එදිරිසූරිය වෙනුවෙන් අධිකරණය හමුවේ පෙනී සිටින නීතිඥවරයා වන්නේ, ජනාධිපති නීතිඥ සාලිය පීරිස් මහතා බවට ඇතැම් ප්රධාන මාධ්ය ධාරා මෙන් ම සමාජ මාධ්ය ජාලා වල පළ වූ සටහන් අසත්ය බවයි. එම නඩුව සම්බන්ධයෙන් පෙනී සිටින නීතිඥවරයා වන්නේ, නීතිඥ අස්තික දේවේන්ද්ර මහතා ඇතුළු පිරිසකි.”

Arrastão no cinema do New York City Center, na Avenida das Américas, Barra da Tijuca. Gente? Até no cinema?
Publisher’s rating: Falso
The claim concerns a video said to show an arrastão—an attempted robbery—in the New York City Center cinema at Barra Shopping in Rio de Janeiro. The review says the circulating captions described people trying to take phones and a resulting disturbance, but rejects the claim that a robbery occurred there. It identifies the location in the captions as the cinema at Barra Shopping and reports that the footage showed a disturbance inside the cinema complex. To check what happened, the review says it searched for further details in reliable sources and found none. It then sought clarification from people responsible for Barra Shopping through the mall’s press office. The mall administration said the footage showed an argument between customers in the cinema foyer on the night of May 22; staff quickly controlled the situation, the cinema continued operating normally, and there was no robbery. The review therefore concludes that the video showed a disturbance, not an arrastão or assault at the location.
O esposo de uma amiga é taxista e achou essa carteira com 1.150 reias no carro, com esses documentos. FERNANDA DA SILVA LISBOA
Publisher’s rating: Falso
The claim repeats a circulating appeal saying a taxi driver found a wallet containing R$1,150 and documents belonging to Fernanda da Silva Lisboa, and that the driver’s wife was trying to return them. Boatos.org says the appeal is false: the original post concerned a recovery that had already been completed, not an ongoing search for Fernanda. The investigation describes tracing the identity and origin of the post from the image itself. The RG shown in the image indicated that the document was from Amapá; searches then led the publisher to the woman who had made the original appeal. According to the article, she later announced that Fernanda had been found and that the wallet had been returned. The article quotes that announcement as saying the people involved were from Macapá, Amapá, and that the delivery was complete. It also reports that the woman removed the images of the documents and money because people were misusing them. This supplies the key context: the old recovery post was recirculating as though the taxi driver still needed help finding Fernanda.

A recent judgement by an Indian Court allows both the wife and girlfriend to live in the same house
Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING
The claim presents the arrangement as a recent, general ruling by an Indian court. FACTLY’s review traces the circulating post to a specific dispute resolved in a Lok Adalat proceeding in Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh, in 2013—not to a new ruling applying generally. The case concerned a man, his wife, and his live-in partner; the review says the post had been circulating since 2013. FACTLY describes its checking process as searching online for relevant keywords, examining a clearer version of the news clipping, and consulting reports by The Hindu, Aaj Tak, and Zee News. According to the review’s account of those reports, the wife complained that her husband spent most of his time with his partner, who had been living with him in their house for two years. The Lok Adalat judge, Ganga Charan Dube, sought to settle that dispute by directing the man to spend alternate fortnights with the two women. The women would continue living under the same roof, while the man stayed in a middle room connected to each woman’s room. The key qualification is that this was a resolution for the parties in that particular case, not a general legal precedent. FACTLY explains that Lok Adalat awards are final and binding on the parties to the case, while clarifying that such decisions do not establish binding precedents for other courts. The post’s account therefore turns an old, case-specific settlement into a recent and general court ruling.
*A L E R T A G E R A L* "CHEIRO DA MORTE" CUIDADO O papel está com uma droga muito forte que te fará desmaiar; aí eles aproveitam roubam, sequestram, estupram ou fazem até o pior
Publisher’s rating: Falso
The claim warns that someone offering perfume on paper in places such as parking lots, bus stops, and terminals may use a powerful drug to make the recipient pass out, enabling robbery, kidnapping, or sexual assault. The review examines that specific circulating “cheiro da morte” alert, including its claim that the practice was occurring at named retailers and other public locations. It describes the message as an old rumor rather than a newly identified criminal method, noting that earlier versions had already been addressed on the site. For evidence beyond the message’s own assertions, the review reports that Jornal Extra said the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro denied cases of rapists using perfume to assault women, and that police stations in locations named in the rumor also rejected the story. The excerpt does not include the underlying police statements or identify those stations, so it supports the fact-check’s account of those denials but does not let readers independently examine them here. The review also says it found no indication of a case matching the warning. The review points to features of the forwarded message—alarmist language, a request to share it, errors, and few sources—as reasons for suspicion, and argues that the described routine would make offenders easy to catch if they repeatedly operated in the same place. Those observations are supporting considerations, not direct proof that no such crime has occurred. The more direct evidence described is the reported police denials and absence of an identified matching case. The supplied excerpt gives no specific incident, victim, date, or police record substantiating the warning.

The claim concerned a widely shared warning that people promised jobs in the Middle East were being taken abroad and killed for their organs, supposedly following a United Nations warning. The circulated message also quoted prices for organs and urged people to share it. Fact Crescendo investigated whether the warning was genuinely issued by the UN, rather than whether trafficking or exploitation can occur in general. The review says it first checked the link included in the English-language version of the message. The linked UN webpage returned “Page or document not found.” It then searched the UN’s official website using keywords from the message, but reports finding no such warning. The archived version of the linked UN page did not support the message either: it contained a report about the response of working groups established in 2011 on organ trafficking and trafficking in persons, not a warning that organ trafficking was happening in the Middle East as described. The review also reports that the UN in Pakistan told AFP the circulating warning was false and was not issued by the UN. It describes similar posts circulating in Nigeria, where media reports attributed a warning to International Organization for Migration official Ikechukwu Attah. According to the review, Attah told the BBC he had made no such statement and that the social-media posts were false; he said his work had helped Nigerian trafficking victims but was not connected to organ-transplant cases. On the evidence described, the specific warning attributed to the UN was not authentic.
