Visuals depicting atrocities committed by Hamas terrorists against children amid ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict

Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING

The review examined two visuals being shared as evidence of Hamas terrorists holding or torturing Israeli children during the conflict: a video showing children in a cage and an image showing two children suspended against a wall. It concluded that both visuals predate the current conflict, while distinguishing that conclusion from reports of real child casualties during the conflict. For the cage video, the review traced the clip to a TikTok account identified as @user6903068251281. Although the original upload had been removed, the review describes screenshots posted by fact-checkers and news organizations. One screenshot dated 9 October 2023 showed that the video had been posted at least four days before Hamas’s 7 October attack on Israel. In a later video, the TikTok user said the children were relatives, not Israeli children, and that the clip had been posted before the conflict began. The review notes that it could not independently confirm the video’s context. For the wall image, the review reports using a reverse image search and finding the same photograph on blogs dating back to 2014. Those older posts associated it with allegations about children being used as human shields, but the review says it could not independently verify the image’s context. Its evidence therefore supports that the image was circulating years before the 2023 conflict, not a definitive account of what it depicts.

The image shows the details of the deaths of Palestinians released by the United Nations

Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING

The claim concerns an image said to show United Nations figures for Palestinian deaths attributed to Israelis. FACTLY says it checked those figures against data published by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the occupied Palestinian territory (OCHA), and found that the image’s figures were exaggerated when compared with two sets of details. The review therefore disputes the image’s presentation as UN data, rather than disputing that OCHA publishes information about Palestinian fatalities.

The allegation concerns the Hamas attack on a music festival near the Gaza border in southern Israel on October 7, 2023. Social-media posts attributed the attack to a covert Israeli operation, naming Mossad, and claimed festivalgoers were caught in crossfire. The review examined a short video circulated as evidence: it shows people fleeing among trees and cars, with Israeli police accompanying them. The investigation traced that roughly 24-second clip to a longer sequence of social-media footage from the festival site and its immediate surroundings near Kibbutz Re’im. The longer compilation shows the festival in the early morning, people being told to leave, and later people fleeing as shots are heard; the short clip used in the posts appears at the end. This sequence matters because the review reports that shots can already be heard before the scene with the armed police, rather than establishing that police fire caused the flight or injured civilians. The footage does not show the claimed crossfire: the review says it cannot be seen that police are shooting, and neither the images nor the audio establish that Israeli forces opened fire on civilians. It also cites other festival videos and eyewitness accounts describing Hamas attackers killing people, including accounts of attackers using automatic weapons. Those strands support the review’s conclusion that the viral clip does not substantiate the Mossad false-flag allegation.
