Israeli journalist, Eddie Cohen, commented on the image, saying, “How many times have they saved this girl… Lies of the Palestinian Daesh [ISIS].”

Publisher’s rating: It’s old, dates back to the Syrian war. It was published in 2016 as part of questioning the truth about the White Helmets team rescuing a Syrian girl from an explosion in Aleppo. However, the photos were taken by the French agency photographer, Ammar Al-Halabi, and they depict a girl who was rescued after a shelling in the Maadi neighborhood in Aleppo. The pictures were taken of the same girl in the same place and time, not in different locations.

Este video muestra a varios hombres que queman una hoja con la bandera de Estados Unidos en el marco del conflicto entre el grupo islamista Hamas e Israel iniciado el 7 de octubre de 2023.

Publisher’s rating: Fuera de contexto

The claim links footage of several men burning a paper U.S. flag to the Israel–Hamas conflict that began on October 7, 2023. The review reports that the clip does not show an event connected to that conflict: it identifies the footage as a protest in Iran’s Parliament in May 2018, five years before the current conflict described in the review. The review says the protest was against then-President Donald Trump’s decision to reimpose sanctions on Iran. The review describes the circulating video as an 89-second compilation. Its first 34 seconds show men with a paper U.S. flag, which one man sets alight; later, the narration discusses U.S. military strength over images of military equipment. The caption says the flag is being burned and that “things are getting ugly,” while the specific burning clip also displays phrases including “Death to America.” Those captions and the later military images do not establish a connection to the 2023 conflict; the review traces the burning footage to a different event. To identify its origin, the review says investigators noticed what appeared to be a Parliament building and an “AP” mark in the frame. They searched Google using English keywords referring to a burned U.S. flag, Parliament, and AP, and found the same 34 seconds in video, photographs, and news reports dated May 9, 2018. One match was Associated Press footage titled “Raw: Iranian lawmakers burn paper U.S. flag.” The review quotes the agency’s description that Iranian lawmakers burned a paper U.S. flag and a copy of the Iran nuclear deal in response to Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the agreement. This identified provenance supports the conclusion that the video is unrelated to the claimed 2023 setting.

Video showing American military assistance to Israel during the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict

Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING

The claim concerned a social-media video of military images said to show American assistance to Israel during the Israel-Palestine conflict. FACTLY’s review distinguishes the broader claim that the United States provided Israel military assistance from the specific claim about the video: it says the assistance was real, but the visuals in the post did not depict that assistance.

Video showing Kim Jong Un’s latest remarks about the ongoing Israel-Palestine and Russia-Ukraine wars and about the upcoming US elections

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerned a video presented as Kim Jong Un’s latest remarks on the Israel-Palestine and Russia-Ukraine conflicts and the upcoming 2024 US election. The review says the accompanying interpretation alleged that he warned of a possible World War III if Joe Biden were re-elected and expressed support for Donald Trump. Its investigation instead identified the footage as an old speech, not a recent comment on those events. To trace the footage, the review describes reverse-image searches of screenshots from the circulating video. That search located a video with similar visuals published by The Star in October 2020. The review reports that The Star identified it as Kim’s address at a military parade marking the 75th anniversary of the ruling Workers’ Party, held on 10 October 2020. The review further says that Kim became emotional while thanking troops for responding to natural disasters and helping prevent a health crisis, and apologized to citizens for not meeting their expectations. The review also points to a transcript of the full speech and reports that it contains no mention of Biden, Trump, or the two conflicts named in the post. Thus, the footage’s identifiable setting and the reported contents of the speech do not support presenting it as Kim’s latest remarks on those wars or the US election. The review concludes that the speech was mistranslated and falsely linked to the current events.

The video shows an Israeli woman, recently freed from Hamas captivity, recounting her experiences

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerns a circulating video said to show an Israeli woman recently freed from Hamas captivity describing her experiences. FACTLY identifies the woman as Vian Dakhil, a Yazidi Iraqi member of parliament, and says the interview instead concerns atrocities committed by the Islamic State. The two accounts therefore involve different people and events, despite the video’s accompanying claim linking it to Hamas captivity. FACTLY reports that it used reverse image searches on keyframes from the viral video. Those searches led to news articles from 2017 identifying Dakhil as the woman shown. The review also reports that the Independent described the interview as one Dakhil gave to Egyptian news channel Extra News, in which she recounted atrocities in Iraq, including accounts involving a baby and a ten-year-old girl. The review distinguishes that interview from a separate development involving Hamas: it says Hamas released two women held captive on humanitarian grounds and because of poor health. That separate release does not establish that either woman appears in the circulating video. FACTLY’s conclusion is that the video shows Dakhil recounting Islamic State atrocities, not an Israeli woman released by Hamas.
