The claim concerns a video said to show a Palestinian woman applying makeup to children’s faces to make them appear dead. FACTLY identifies the footage instead as showing a woman touching and bidding farewell to her deceased child. It reports that the children were killed in an Israeli airstrike in the Nuseirat refugee camp on 08 November 2023. To trace the video, FACTLY says it noticed Arabic text resembling a copyright mark, translated as “Omar Al-Derawi,” and found the same footage on Gaza photojournalist Omar Al-Dirawi’s Instagram account. His 8 November post captioned the video “Mom says goodbye to her kids”; another post from the same day and location described a massacre of children in Nuseirat. FACTLY also compared screen grabs from the viral video with a news report and concluded they related to the same incident. The review reports that local reporters identified the footage as having been filmed at al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah. They said the woman had a digital prayer counter, or Misbaha, on her finger—not a makeup brush—and was touching the child to bid farewell. FACTLY likewise describes a blue object on her index finger that looked like a tally counter. These findings contradict the post’s interpretation of the video as staged makeup application.
