XPO · Logistics & Delivery

In AI answers, XPO is a name on industry lists, rarely the company credited with a reputation

When assistants list logistics giants or LTL carriers, XPO tends to appear as one entry among many, while the parcel majors carry the descriptive weight. Press coverage of XPO is dominated by operating data and stock news, and those themes barely show up in the answers.

The evidence

One snapshot, measured September 29, 2026. These figures come from one quarterly run of 1,250 answers (95% range 5–8%), not a ranking or a trend. The questions never named XPO.

How the answers frame XPO

This snapshot, measured on 2026-09-29, covers 250 benchmark questions across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok, none of which named a brand. XPO was named in 75 of 1,250 answers: ChatGPT 21, Grok 17, Claude 14, Gemini 12, Perplexity 11. FedEx and UPS were named in roughly 890 answers each. XPO sits in the middle of the sector, alongside Maersk, C.H. Robinson, J.B. Hunt and Old Dominion.

Where XPO shows up, it usually shows up as a list item. In the eight stored answers we reviewed, it was named in career-shortlist answers, in "most respected names" answers, in a question on the largest LTL carriers, in two budget pallet-shipping answers and in a sustainability answer. ChatGPT's opening notes on warehouse-conditions controversies also listed it alongside Amazon, FedEx, UPS and DHL.

The credit attached to those mentions is thin. The data tags most XPO mentions as "Not Substantive" and only one as "Reliability & Operations". The clearest descriptive line came from Gemini, which framed XPO around North American LTL and contract logistics. Claude's answer placed it in a run of names without describing it.

Visibility by question intent is uneven. XPO's visibility was highest on leadership questions (26%) and trust questions (19%). It was 11% on "avoid" questions. It was 0% on reliability, small-business fit and package handling, and only 1% to 3% on safety, service, value and speed and tracking.

A major player in North American LTL (less-than-truckload) shipping and contract logistics, serving a significant portion of Fortune 100 companies.

What the press is saying

The PeakMetrics news index recorded 2,622 mentions of XPO over the last 30 days, with 621 carrying the brand in the headline. That is more coverage than C.H. Robinson, J.B. Hunt and Old Dominion in this sector set, but well below UPS and FedEx.

The recent headlines are mostly financial and operational: XPO's North American LTL operating data for August 2026 (syndicated across several outlets), a stock-analysis item on the August LTL metrics, and a report on a COO stock sale. One headline concerns an advertising-software launch that mentions an "XPO MCP Server Integration". The headline alone does not show how it relates to the company.

The top logistics companies in the U.S. also include UPS Supply Chain Solutions, FedEx Logistics, C.H. Robinson, XPO Logistics, Ryder, and Penske Logistics…

The gap

The press story is about monthly LTL metrics, investor interest and executive stock activity. The AI story is a roster: XPO is named among big logistics employers, respected freight names and LTL carriers, with little said about its operations or service.

The LTL framing appears in the answers, but the reliability and service themes that operating data would speak to do not. XPO had 0% visibility on reliability questions in this snapshot. Press volume and answer volume are separate measures, and the two diverge here.

What to watch

For a comms team, the takeaway is that XPO is present in category lists but has little attached to its name in these answers. Watch which descriptors assistants attach to it on reliability, service and small-business questions, where it was absent.

Also check which cited domains the assistants lean on when they name XPO. In the sampled answers, ChatGPT cited a DHL page for its career shortlist, which suggests the sources shaping the XPO mention are not always XPO's own.

How this was measured

Measured September 29, 2026. 250 unbranded questions per sector, asked to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok on their product models, with web search on. Refreshed quarterly.

This is a snapshot, not a ranking or a trend: AI answers vary from run to run. It shows whether a brand appeared and which sources were cited, not how favorably it was described. The paid platform tracks favorability daily.

Full method

In an early five-question test, the same brand went from 40% to 30% to 70% visibility across three runs, which is why every figure here is dated and treated as a snapshot.

The questions cover 13 intents, such as reliability, value for money and customer service. A model drafted them, a review pass removed paraphrases and questions that point to one company, and every question was checked so that none names a measured brand. Each was asked once per assistant in run 2026Q4.

Every visibility figure comes with a 95% range (a Wilson interval). Where two brands' ranges overlap, treat them as tied. The figures use all 1,250 answers. The quotes in the story come from a stratified sample of 60 of them, spread across every assistant and intent.

Summarized on September 30, 2026from this snapshot's stored answers. Every quote is checked against the original answer.
