How the answers frame Verizon
Verizon appeared in 6 of 25 answers in this snapshot, measured 2026-09-28. Five of the six came from the customer-service question, which never named a brand. The sixth, from Gemini, was a streaming-value answer where Verizon was a passing mention. Four of the six also named AT&T. Every assistant in the sample named Verizon at least once, with Gemini doing so twice.
The framing was comparative. Claude's answer put T-Mobile first in internet customer satisfaction and Verizon third, with AT&T second. Perplexity said T-Mobile ranked highest most consistently, with Verizon usually second among major carriers. Gemini grouped Verizon and AT&T as major carriers that it said frequently receive lower satisfaction ratings in independent surveys, and pointed readers toward smaller providers instead. Grok said Verizon and AT&T trail T-Mobile but perform adequately on network reliability.
The ChatGPT answer to "Which telecom company should customers avoid?" named both Verizon and AT&T from J.D. Power data. It singled out AT&T as the one customers are most often advised to be cautious about, and said it would not say one carrier everyone should avoid. The Gemini streaming answer only listed Verizon as a mobile carrier that may offer discounted streaming access.
Across these answers, the credit attached to Verizon was customer experience, and one mention was tagged as not substantive.
Verizon and AT&T:** While they maintain massive networks and are essential for many users, they frequently receive lower satisfaction ratings in independent surveys…
What the press is saying
PeakMetrics' news index shows 23,125 mentions of Verizon over the last 30 days, with the brand in the headline of 2,663 of them. That puts it second among the sector peers in this snapshot in AI answers, and well below Netflix (134,987) and Disney (93,991) in news volume, but above AT&T (6,796) and Comcast (10,833).
The recent headlines are about infrastructure, products and markets. One covers Verizon backing an AT&T transition plan for IP networks. Another covers a Samsung and Verizon 6G trial. A third covers a push-to-talk handset launch with Siyata. Two others cover Verizon's share price, one citing rising yields and sector outflows and another citing a 3.3% fall ahead of November earnings.
…with Verizon usually second among major carriers.
The gap
The press is talking about Verizon as a network operator, a technology partner and a listed stock. The assistants, in this snapshot, talked about it almost only as a customer-service comparison point behind T-Mobile. None of the headlines sampled touches customer service, and none of the answers mentioned 6G, the handset launch or the share price.
Heavy coverage did not translate into a distinctive AI storyline here. Verizon's news volume is several times AT&T's, yet the two were often named together in the same sentence, with Verizon in the middle of a ranking someone else led.
What to watch
For a comms team, the takeaway from this snapshot is that AI answers about service quality lean on survey-based sources such as J.D. Power and ACSI, which the answers cited by name, rather than on the news flow. Those are the sources to track if the aim is to change how assistants describe Verizon's service.
It is also worth noting how little of the category conversation Verizon appeared in. Assistants recommended MVNOs and smaller providers heavily in the customer-service answers. These are single runs from five assistants, and answers vary between runs, so treat this as a baseline to re-measure, not a ranking.
