How the answers frame U.S. Bank
This snapshot was measured on 2026-09-29. It covers 250 benchmark questions across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok, or 1,250 answers. U.S. Bank was named in 208 of them. Grok named it most (71 of 250). Claude and Perplexity named it least (31 and 30 of 250). Visibility varied by question type. It was highest on digital banking experience (34%), then service (26%), leadership (25%) and safety (22%). It was lowest on rewards and perks (7%) and reliability (9%).
In the 11 stored answers we were given, U.S. Bank usually appeared inside a list. It was one of several banks in answers on debit card issuers, virtual card numbers, small-business banking and fraud protection. In Perplexity's market-cap table it appeared as "U.S. Bancorp". Only a few answers said anything specific about it. ChatGPT's fee-reversal answer pointed to fee waivers and an overdraft forgiveness feature. Gemini's answer on employers for women in banking grouped it with Ally Bank under "Top Teams". Perplexity listed it among banks offering small installment loans to existing checking customers.
One answer carried an enforcement storyline. Claude, asked which banks have been fined for failing to protect customers from fraud, included U.S. Bank in a section headed "Other Notable Cases", separate from the Zelle lawsuit. Grok's small-business tools answer named U.S. Bank among traditional banks it said tend to lag fintech and neobank options on automation.
The credited-for data is thin. The few attributions recorded were mostly "Not Substantive", with single-digit counts for Safety & Compliance, Price & Value, and Labour & Workplace. In this snapshot the answers gave U.S. Bank no dominant reputational theme.
U.S. Bank offers real-time monitoring and spending controls that can help limit potential losses from fraud.
What the press is saying
PeakMetrics' news index shows 6,151 mentions of U.S. Bank over the last 30 days, 1,039 with the brand in the headline. The recent headlines are about business and leadership. They cover a new executive to lead payments for consumer-facing industries, business banking team expansion into Florida and Georgia with growth in Texas and Arizona, an earnings story, and a U.S. Bank survey on how Americans build wealth.
Against the peers in this dataset, that coverage is modest. Bank of America (100,429), Morgan Stanley (102,303), Goldman Sachs (92,123), Wells Fargo (65,947) and JPMorgan Chase (62,944) all show far larger news volumes.
U.S. Bank was fined by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for illegally accessing its customers' credit reports and opening checking and savings accounts, credit cards, and lines of credit without customers' permission…
The gap
The press story is corporate. It is about hires, regional growth, earnings and research the bank published itself. The AI story is mostly consumer utility: fee waivers, fraud monitoring, debit and virtual cards, small-business accounts. Neither the expansion news nor the payments leadership appointment appears in the answers we were shown.
Press volume and answer presence do not line up cleanly either. U.S. Bank's news volume is well below several peers, yet it was named in a similar number of answers to American Express (209) and more than Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley (132 and 89), whose coverage is far larger. Being covered heavily and being named in answers are separate measures. This is a single snapshot, not a ranking.
What to watch
Check which product and service claims the assistants can find on the bank's own pages. ChatGPT's fee-waiver answer cited usbank.com, which suggests owned content can shape how the bank is described.
Read the enforcement mention in Claude's answer alongside how often that question type surfaces the bank. Within one answer, the fine sat next to the Zelle lawsuit that named other banks. Track whether that framing repeats in future runs, and treat this snapshot as a single run.
Look at the categories where visibility was lowest: reliability, rewards and perks, trust. Then look at the category where it was highest, digital banking experience. Live answers vary between runs, so repeat the benchmark questions before drawing conclusions.
