How the answers frame TJX
This is a snapshot from 29 September 2026: 250 benchmark questions put to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok, none naming a brand. That is 1,250 answers in all. TJX was named in 71 of them. By provider, the split was Grok 32 of 250, Gemini 13, ChatGPT 12, Perplexity 8 and Claude 6.
TJX's visibility was concentrated in one question intent. Leadership questions reached 26%. Value was 8%, employer 10% and safety 6%. Trust and innovation were 0%, and reliability, service, returns and loyalty were all in low single digits.
In the three stored answers, TJX was one name in a list rather than the subject. Claude, asked which retailers employ the most people in the US, listed TJX with 349,000 employees alongside Walmart, Costco and Lowe's. Gemini named TJX among the brands for "best run" retailers, but the excerpt shown centers on Costco and H-E-B. Perplexity grouped Costco, Walmart and TJX together and described TJX as "an impressive off-price operator" with a fiscal 2025 pretax margin of 11.5%.
The credit tags were thin. Two mentions were tagged Not Substantive and one Financial Performance. That matches the Perplexity framing, which leaned on margins and profitability.
**TJX** is an impressive off-price operator, combining growth with strong profitability; its fiscal 2025 pretax margin increased to 11.5%.
What the press is saying
The PeakMetrics news index recorded 4,639 mentions of TJX in the last 30 days, 782 with the brand in the headline. The sampled headlines are mostly financial and corporate: a quarterly dividend announcement, a board election, and stock-performance pieces. One headline reads "Morgan Stanley backs TJX after its worst quarter in years."
Coverage is sizable but well below the category's largest names. Walmart's index count is 79,582 and Target's 42,684. Nike is at 37,047 and Costco at 37,348.
**TJX** with 349,000 employees…
The gap
The press treats TJX as a listed company: dividends, governance, stock performance. The assistants, in the answers sampled, treat it as a scale-and-operations example: headcount and profitability in "best run" and employer questions.
Peer counts show TJX behind Walmart (577 of 1,250 answers), Target (452) and Costco (423), and close to IKEA (74) and Walgreens (62). Its press volume is higher than IKEA's, Nordstrom's and Macy's, yet those brands were named more often in the answers. Press volume and AI visibility did not move together in this snapshot.
Grok accounts for 32 of the 71 mentions, so the total leans heavily on one assistant. Claude named TJX least.
What to watch
For a TJX comms team, the takeaway is where the brand is absent. Trust, innovation, reliability, service and loyalty questions returned almost nothing in this snapshot, while leadership questions are where the brand appears.
Track which sources the assistants draw on for financial and workforce figures, since those figures are what the sampled answers repeated. The Perplexity answer cited numbered sources for its margin claim.
This is one run of live answers, and results vary between runs. Treat the pattern as a baseline to re-measure, not a ranking.
